SHIPPING NOTES.
The Cniburien sailed 3'esterday, with
2131 bags of sugar, 924,1 bags of rice
and 130 bunches of b:m;inas, Total
domestic value 29,570.50.
The Iwalani brought 102 bags of
paddy from Waiinea.
The wharf at Eleele has washed away.
The stun Jas Alakee took in tow the
schooner Munuokawal 9 miles off Ana--liola,
lier sails being in pieces. She has
coal for Kekaha.
Stmr Mokolii brought 844 bags Jof
rice, 183 bugs of sugar and 41 bbls of
molasses. The Captain reports a num
ber of houses blown down at Koolau.
The Likelikc brought 1015 bag's of
sugar. The Captain reports the wharf
at Mahukona under the water, and that
3 bouts were stove in, while landing
there.
The schoo'ier Haleakala arrived yes
terday, with COO bugs of sugar. She
left Pepeekco hist '1 hursday, passed Kn
hului, but saw nothing of the Kiluuea
Hon. She biiiiL'S the 3 sailors of the
Maua. that were left at Honomu.-
The schooner Wuimalu returned from
Koloa with all the freight for that plaee,
she being unable to land it. She sailed
yesterday with better prospects.
The schooner Kaluua arrived yester
day, 10 days from Jaluit with 30 S. S.
laborers, fcho was 24 davs going down,
and reports the Morning .-tar having
sailed on Aug. 12, for Caroline Islands.
Heard of the Julia at Mnk n, she sailed
3 days before the arrival of the Kaluua,
for fcouth Gilbert Islands.

The Equitable Life Assurance Com
pany has an income of 48,493,349.50
and nn expenditure of $0,981,400.47.

bonds and mortgages on real estate.
The society has not a single contested
claim on its books, and its policies are
incontestable after three years from
their issue, and payable promptly on
proof of death. Its total real estate
yields a rental of over five per cent.

A daring attempt tit burglary was
committed on Snnda3' morning at the
Hotel. Two ladies occupy one room
and, shortly before four o'clock, one of
them was aroused by feeling a man's
hand npon her. Sho immediately
screamed, the m in got behind the bell
and was subsequently seen, by both
ladies, escaping through one of the doors
of the room, he ran along the corridor
and dls-nppeared. The object of the
unwelcome visitor was doubtless to
secure some valuable diamonds which
the lady keeps in pockets in a flunnel
jacket that she wears even' night. The
jewels arc now in safe keeping and the
police arc on the trail of the thief. Such
an attempt has never before occurred in
Honolulu.

Christmas and New Years cards. They
