LflKE STEAMER LOST.
' IIAkcucic (Mich.), November 21.
It is feared the steutner Manistee,
plying between this port and D ninth,
has sunk with her crow and twenty
five passengers on board. She left
Bayfield at midnight on the 15th in
stant lot Ontonagon, on her way to
this port, and lias not been heard
from since. The steamers Dulnth
and China left Bayfield one hour and
a half after the Manistee for the
some point, but did not sec her yes
terday. A tug was sent to find the
Manistee. It returned to-day bring
ing a bucket, marked "Manistee,"
and a portion tf the pilot-house.
The boat being old and heavily
. loaded and the sea very rough, it is
feared she lias foundered. Two tugs
have been cruising for her the last
three days. A telegram was received
this morning stating that the tugs
had found a part of thci cabin, which
was washed nshorc some distance
Dumjtii, November 21. The pro
peller Manistee was winuboilnd at
.Bayfield till Thursday, necessitating
the transfer of a largo number of her
passengers to the steamer City of
Duluth. , She then cleared for On
tonagon last night. To-day the
portions of the Wreck, found hero
leave no doubt among marine men
that she has gone down with twenty
five persons on board.
