THE COINAGE CASE.
The following is the concluding
portion of the decision of His Honor
Mr. Justice McCully.
" The iictitioncrs' counsel says
that when the respondent denies that
he intends to issue bonds for coin of
tho -value of 82 per cent of U. S.
gold coin, he evades the nllegntion
that he is about to issue them for
coin of about 82 per cent. I cannot
think that, by such refinement and
casuistry, one of the Kingls Minis-
tors, nnswering by the advice of the
'Attorney-General and other respon
sible counsel, attempts to impose
upon the Court, in violent incon
sistency with his several denials that'
he intendB to violate the law."
"The statement of this respon
dent is 'at least credible.". There sis
no 'extreme improbability' in it.
The Court will take the answer as
declaring in good faith that the res-
'pondcut is not al)ouV,to,fs8,iie bondsJ
'in any other manner, or 'for any
other moneys, than is provided f or,
'by law,' as construed-by the Court!
'The bill is therefore dismissed
(and the temporary writ granted ex
parte dissolved." - i n
THE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION' '
Met at the Y. M. C. A. yesterday,
about forty tnemberB being present.
After prayer, Rev. A. Mackintosh,
retiring president, addressed tlie,
meeting. The following -olllcers1
were then elected: M. M. Scott,
i president; iMiss Brickwood, "vicq
'president'; Bliss Moore,' Secretary ',
Miss Mossman, Miss Carter and Mr.
'Sanford, executive committee.
Mr. J. A. Moore, of Maul, gavo
an interesting discourse on text
books, the, best selection' to be niae
and the method of interesting pupils
in their work. !"
Mr. Oleson, of Hllo, illustrated
his new method of teaching English
to. -Hawaiians .,by. his., new-spelling,
book, in .Hawaiian andj'Unglish,
which contains 1,500 colloquial En
glish words.
Mrs. Geo. Wallace read 'an' ex
cellent paper on the imperfect teach
ing in primary departments.
A lengthy discission on the ad
visability of teachers changing tJieir
rooms, bo as to escape the .fatiguing
work of one class, ensued, tbQ pres
ident remarking that not-one teacher
in Honolulu was of tho same opinion
oi) the subject.
To-day's programme comprises
papers on Industrial Ed,ipati6n bv
Dr. Hyde, Organization for Ha
waiian Schools by Mr, G.1 Cr. Ken
yon, Class Drill by Miss Lewis." All
interested are invited.
