We were notified of the first appearance of Miss Clare Forest, and we were agreeably sur prised, not1 only at the appearance of this lady, but also at her per formance, which, considering that this was her first appearance on any stage, was excellent. With moic experience, and the case which this brings, this lady 'may make her maik in the profession, for she has certainly much in her favor. Among tho other amateurs who deserve particular mention are Maitha, Beitrand, Doctor Upright and the Baby, who sustained their partso-weUhroughoub. Dr. Upright was a very conscientibus pompous old gentleman and held a Govern ment position, he "gets "paid by Uie Government, that is, when there is money in tho Tiensury.'" Bci-fraud, an amateur, had ta dilll cult part but did exceedingly well, lie has good voice and appearauce, had studied his part carefully, and will soon overcome the slight stiffness that was apparent on his fust ap pearance. Miss Beaudet, as Marie, had a most dUIicult pait, and was almost con tinually before the ;atidience, the most fastidious of whom never tire of seeing something good. This hard woiking little lady deserves all the praise that she has hitherto re ceived for her representation of this character, the ruined wife of a bad husband, a diillcult part to portray. The character of Remy does not give Ilerr Bandmann much oppor tunity to display ,nis capabilities, however, he made everything pos sible of it, and judged tolerably cor rectly of most constituencies, that his "6,000 franes! would gain him a scat in the Legislature," but Ila ) waitan 'voters are ''hpnorabjeimen," and, if running fo- a Honolulu con- stitueiicy, it..u.,.fl.l. wc would recommend make an exchange with lieiiiy-iu Cuuha of cusli for gin.
