Tim juvenile circus, or what is
more generally known as a "round
about," which has been imported by
Mr. J. AV. I'lluger, is now in full
working order. The horses, car
riages and music from the organ
(not the Advertiser) attracted sev
eral hundred children yesterday
afternoon, and Mr. Plluger indulged
them with a free ride.
Tim condition of the sidewalk on
Merchant street, between the Post-
oflice and the Advertiser ollicc, must
have impressed the large number of
passengers, who passed through on
the Zcalandia, with a good idea of
the cleanliness of our city fathers.

A hospital has just been completed

sick. The welfare of the patients is
somewhat impaired by a lack of
water aud medicines, for both of
which necessaries Dr. Endcrs has
applied to the Board of Health, but
of course has received no reply;
and, as ho is unable to perform
miracles, he cannot heal the sick
without the proper remedies.
Tim Zcalandia had some rough
weather on her last trip to the Colo
nies. When four days out from
Honolulu she experienced a hurri
cane which lasted for -18 hours.
Three of the crew met with acci
dents, the boatswain's mate falling
off the crosstrces on' to the deck,
and almost overboard. The doctor
had fourteen people under his care
at one time ; the captain did not
leave the bridge for twelve hours ;
and no sights were taken for three

yesterday by John M. Kapena, Min
ister of Finance, against II. M.
Queen Dowager Emma and Mrs. C.
R. Bishop. A bill in equity was
filed on the part of the Government
to have the Minister of Finance sub
rogated as equitable mortgagee in
a mortgage upon Honolulu Hale.
The hearing was upon a demurrer
interposed by Mr. A. S. Hartwell
and Mr. F. M. Hatch, on the part
of the respondents, who made the
opening and closing arguments. His
Excellency the Attorney-General ap
peared i for the Government. The
case was taken under advisement,
the briefs to be filed this week.
