HAWAIIAN LINE OF STEAMERS.
Wo have received from Messrs. G.
W. Mticfarlnno & Co., a prospectus
of the "City of Paris" Steamship
Company, limited, with a. capital of
$160,000 in 1G00 shares of $100
each. The managing directors arc

Agents in Honolulu, Messrs. G. W.
Macfarlane & Co. Agents in San
Francisco, Messrs. John D. Spreck
els & Bros. This company is formed
to purchase the -well known Inman
line steamer "City of Paris," and is
intended to form the nucleus of a
line of steamers to run regularly
between England, Honolulu and San
Francisco, in which trade the Manag
ing directors have already required
some valuable experience and con
nections, and have been so success
ful as to encourage them to initiate
a regular system of rapid steam
communication between the impor
tant points above named. It is
intended to carry Portuguese and
other laboring immigrants, cargo,
live stock, first cabin passengers, to
these Islands, and for the return
voyages, it is felt certain that the
high character and great speed of
the steainers'will ensure for them
profitable freight and other ocean
carrying business, for which arrange
ments arc already in progress. The
Hawaiian Government will be asked
for a moderate subsidy in support of
the line, and, if desired the steamer
will fly the Hawaiian flag. Applica
tion for shares can be made in
Honolulu until the 14th of June, of
Messrs. Bishop & Co. and Messrs.
Spreckels & Co. The steamer City
of Paris" was built in 1866. The
length is, over all, 397 feet, breadth
40.75, depth of hold 26.2. Tons
gross register 3,086. Tons net re
gister, 1,993. Rig ship, and is
classed at Lloyds 100 A 1 and A
IX. She received entirely new
engines and boilers in 1881 and
steams about 12& knots under or
dinary conditions, and is well adopted
in every way for the trade she is to
be placed in.
