Last Friday at Kipahulu, a native
and his wife were out fishing with
giant powder. The man had thrown
a charge in the water which killed a
large number of fish. He told his
wife to go away from him for a few
minutes while he collected the fish,
as he had more powder in his
pocket. She did so, but a moment
afterwards the powder in his pocket
exploded, laying open the abdomen
and killing him instantly.
Yksteuday afternoon about 5
o'clock two ladies were walking up
Union Street, when opposite the
British Club, a white man held up a
gun and- shot at a mynah from the
opposite side of the road. The ladies
had a most miraculous escape from
death, as the ball passed about G
inches in front of them and lodged
in the fence. It naturally scared the
ladies, but the man, who is unknown
quietly turned round and walked off,
as if nothing unusual had happened.
