The other night, a family residing
out on the plains, were rendered very
nervous by strange sounds about
their premises. These were con
tinued so long, and were so peculiar,
that the theory of burglars seemed
hardly tenable. By-and-by a search
was made almost all over the house,
without solving the mystery. In the
morning, tho cause of the distur
bance was discovered in the back
yard, constituting a comical sight.
A cat'had found an opened can of
some acceptable viand in a barrel,
had thrust her head into the aper
ture, and had been unable to free
herself. "When set at liberty, poor
pussy didn't stop to thank them.
About $130 is still due on the pa
vilion at tiic Makiki Reserve. In
order to raise the necessary funds
for paying off this debt, and making
necessary repairs to the grounds, 25
cents admission to the pavilion will
hereafter bo charged.
Season tickets, free of charge, will
be issued to those who have sub
scribed to tho pavilion fund, and
may bo had on application to Mr.
Hewitt, at J. M. Oat's stationery
store. An appropriation of a few
hundred dollars will be asked for,
from the Legislature, for the pur
pose of laying water on to the ground
to keep the turf in order.
