OPENING OF THE LIBRARY BUILDING.
The above named affair which
came off last evening was quite
informal and thoroughly enjoyable.
The entire building, whose spacious
and beautiful interior will be a sur
prise to those who have not had an
opportunity of seeing it, was lighted
and thrown upon to tho public. In
place of the reading tables and other
furniture which has not yet been put
in, the floor was occupied by chairs
for tho accommodation of guests.
By the kindness of His Ex. Gov.

the company to order and delivered
a brief address appropriate to the
occasion and concluded by calling
on Dr. Rodgers the Secretary of the
building committee to make n state
ment on behalf of that body. The
doctor responded by giving a con
densed history of the building enter
prise from its inception, and announ
ced in conclusion, that this large,
beautiful and convenient building
had been completed at a cost of
about twelve thousand dollars,
and was entirely free from debt.
Brief remarks of a congratulatory
character followed, from Rev. Dr.
Hyde, His Excellency the American
Minister and W. R. Castle, Esq. At
tho conclusion of theso exercises,
which did not occupy much over
half an hour, ice cream was served
to tho guests and tho company re
solved itself into an informal social
gathering. The (jompany dispersed
about half-past nine o'clock with
many congratulations to the officers
of the Association upon tho success
of their efforts and many expressions
of admiration for tho admirable
structure which had secured. "Wo
hope in some future occasion to de
