A SKILFUL SURCICAL OPERATION.
The American Ambassador nt Vienna,
Mr. Kiisson, has lately foi warded to his
Government an Interesting account of a
icmaikablc Miigieal operation lately
pet formed by Piofessor Bllliolh, of
Vienna, which, wonderful to tell, con.
sled in the removal of n portion
of the human stomach, involving
nearly one.lhiid of the organ and,
strange to ray, the patient rccoveied
the only puicessful operation of the
kind ever performed. The disease for
which this operation was performed
was cancer of the stomach, nttcndedwllh
the following symptoms: The appetite
is quite poor. 'There is a peculiar iiules
crlbnblc distress in the stomach, a feel.
Ing that has been dcicilhcd us a faint
" gone" sensation! a sticky slime col
lects about the teeth, especially in the
morning, accompanied by an unpleasant
tatc. Food falls to satisfy this peculiar
faint sensation; but, on the contrary, it
appears to aggravate the feeling. The
L5'es are sunken, tinged wlthycllow; the
hands ond feet become cold and sticky
n cold perspiration. The suflcrers feel
tired all the time, and sleet) docs not
ecni to give rest. After a tunc the pa.
tlent becomes nervous and Irritable,
gloomy, his mind filled with evil fore,
bodlngs. When rising suddenly fiom
a icciiinbeut position there is a dizziness,
a whibtllug sensation, and lie is obliged
to grap something firm to keep fiom
falling. Tho bowels costive, tho skin
dry and hot at times; tho blood becom
ing thick and stagnant, and does not
cl i dilute piopeily. After u time the
patient spits up lood soon after eating,
sometimes in n sour and fermented con.
dltion, sometimes sweetish to tho taste.
Oftentimes there is a palpitation of the
bcait, and the patient fears lie may have
heart disease. Towards the last the
patient Is unable to retain any food
whatever, as the opening lu tho intes
tines become closed, or nearly so. Al
though this disease U indeed alarming,
suflcrers with the uboc named symp
toms should not feci nervous, for nine
hundred and ninety-nine cases out of a
thousand have no "cancer, but simply
dyspepsia, a disease easily removed if
treated in a proper manner. The safest
and best icincdy for the disease is
