fTclicf from Mill'crlng. Tile disease Is
1 often mistaken for other complaints:
i. but if tho reader will asked himself tho
; following iiicslloiis, ho will bo able to
(' dctcrmlno whether he himself is one of
ullllclctl: Have I dlsticss, pain, or dllll
cultylu breathing after catlug? Is there
u dull, heavy feeling attended by drow
I slness? Have the eyes n yellow tinge?
Docs a thick, sticky, mucous gather

' taste? Is the tongue, coated? Is there
S pains in the side and back? Is there n
tulncss about the right side as if the
liver were enlarging? Is there costive

lising suddenly from a horizontal posi

deposit after standing? Docs food fcr
ment, soon after eating, nceompanlcd by
llatulcnce or a belching of gas from the
stomach? Is theie frequent p.dpitatlon
of the heart? These nrious symptoms
may not be present at one time, but titer
torment the suU'eror in turn as the dread
ful dUeasc progresses. If the case be
one of long standing, there will be n dry,
backing cough, attended after a time by
expectoration. In very advanced stages
the skin assumes n dirty brownish ap.
pcarauee, and the hands and feet arc
covered by a cold, sticky perspiiation.
As the liver and kidneys become more
and more diseased, rheumatic pains ap
pear, and the usual treatment proves en.
tlrely unavailing against this latter ago.
nlzlug disorder. Thoorlglnof thismala.
dy is Indigestion or dyspepsia, and a small
quantity of tho proper medicine will

disease should be promptly and properly
treated In its first stages, when it little
medicine will effect a cure and even
when It has obtained a strong hold the
concct remedy should bo perserved in
until every vestige of the disease- Is
eradicated, until tho appetite has re.
turned, and the digestive organs restored
to a healthy condition. The suie.st and
most cll'ectual remedy for this distressing
complaints Is "Seigcl's Curative Syrup,"
a vegetable preparation sold by all

A SKILFUL SURGICAL OPERATION.
Tho American Ambassador nt Vienna,
Mr. Kn"ton, has lately forwarded to bis
Government an Interesting account of a
remarkable surgical operation lately
pet formed by Professor Ilillroth, of
Vienna, which, wonderful to tell, con.
slstcd in the removal of n portion
of the human stomach, Involving
nearly oue-thlrd of the organ and.
strange to say, the patient lecovercd
the only suieessliil operation of the
kind ever perfoimcd. The disease for
which this operation was performed
was cancer of the stomach, attended with
the following symptoms: The appetite
Is quite poor, 'i'hero isn peculiar hides,
rrlbablu distress In the stoni'ich, u feel
ing that ha3 been described as a faint
"ntlgviic" sensation; a sticky slime col.
Icctaiihuullhc teeth, especially In the
luoinlng, accompanied by an unpleasant
taste. Pood falls to satisfy this peculiar
faint bcns.ilioii; but, on the contrary, 11
appears to aggravate tho feeling. The
eyes are sunken, tinged with yellow; the
hands and feet become cold and sticky
a cold perspiration. The sufferers leel
tired all the time, and sleep, does not
seem to giro rest. After a time the pa
tient becomes neivous and Irritable,
gloomy, ids mind filled with evil fore,
boding. When rising suddenly from
a recumbent position there is a dizziness,
a whistling sensation, and he Is obliged
to grasp something linn to keep from
falling. The bowels costio, tho skin
dry and hot at limes; the blood becom
ing thick and stagnant, and docs not
circulate properly. After a time the
patient spits up lood soon after eating,
sometimes In a sour and fermented con.
dltlon, sometimes sweetish to the taste.
Oftentimes there is a palpitation of the
heart, and the patient fears be may have
heart disease. Towards the last the
patient is unable to letaln any food
whatever, as the opening in the intes
tines becomes closed, or nearly so. Al.
though this disease is indeed alarming,
sufferers with (jtko above named symp
toms should not feel neivous, for nine
hundred and nliicty-nlnc cases out of a
thousand havo no cancer, but simply
dyspepsia, a disease easily removed if
treated In a proper manner. The safest
and best remedy for tho disease is
Selgcl's Curative Syrup, a vegetable pre.
p.iratlou sold by all chemists ami medi
cine vendors throughout the worm, ami
by the proprietors, A. .T. White (Limit

Dear Sir, I write to inform you that
1 have derived cicat bcncllt from
"Selgcl's Syrup." For some yiars I have
suU'crcd from liver complaint, with its
many and varied concomitant evils, so
that inv life was a pcipetunl miscrr.
Twehe months ago I was induced to tiy
Selgel's Syrup, and although rather
sceptical, having tiled so many reputed
infallible remedies, I determined to ulvc
it at least a fair trial. In two or three
days I fell considerably better, and now
at tho end of twelvo months (having
continued taking it) I am glad to say
that I am a dlllerent being altogether.
It is said of certain pens that they "como
as a boon and a blessing to men" and I
have no reason to doubt tho truthfulness
of the statement. I can truly say, how.
ever, that Selgel's Syrup has come as a
"boon and a blessing" to me. I havo re
commended it to several fellow.suffercrs
from this distressing complaint, and
their testimony is quite in accoidance
with my own. Gratitude for tho benefit
