STATEMENT.
THE undersigned, a Committee of Di
rectors of the Equitable Lifo As
suranco Society of tho United States, .
appointed to formulate the views of the
Board on the advantages oH'orcd by the
Society to the public, report:
1st The Society issues all the approv.
ed forms of assurance, including Ordi
nary Life, Endowment and Tontine po
licies. It Is immaterial to tlio Directors
which form of policy is taken by in
tending assurers.
'd The'Life and Endowment forms
of policy provide for annual ensh divi
dends and n surrender value; are indis
pulahlc after three years and payable
immediately after proof of death.
3d The premiums on a Tontine po
licy nre the same as on tho Ordinary
Lite, but, while the latter is only pay.
able in the event of death, tlio holder of
tho Tontino policy has the right to draw
tho whole of Iho reserve and the nccu.
mulntcd profits in rash nt the end of n
blated period; thus, during his own life
time, after his producing years niu past,
ho can, without iiny larger premium
than on nil oidinary policy, secure these
greater advantages.
Hh Experience shows that tho return
paid in cash on maturing Tontine po
iicics approximates to or exceeds the
nmoiuil of premiums paid by policy
holders, so Unit Iho average cost of tho
assurance will bo only about the interest
011 the premiums.
Glh Tontine policies, like rubers, nro
paid In full iu tho ovent of death at any
timo during tho term of tho policy, nnd
nro incontestable after threo years, and
payablu immediately after due proof of
death.
0th Experience shows that tho mor.
tallty is lower among Tontino policy,
holders, us tho belter lives t-cck this
kind of assurances, which is a consider,
able source of profit.
7th Tontino policies will bn mado
nou-forfeltablo under the Juwstof tho
State, If so desired at tlio timo iho ai.
suranco Is cllccted,
8th The Tontino system is fair and
just; Its accounts aro accurately kept,
separate fiom nil other business; tho
funds judiciously invested and iiuprov. '
ed, and the accumulated profits faith,
fully guarded and properly apportioned.
0th The Society has sinco its organi
zation transacted a larger amount of
now business than any other company,
while its new business for tho first half
of the present year is $ 1,700,000 lorger
than that of the tlrst half of 1884. It
has Assets of 00,000.000; over $14,000,.
000 of Surplus, and its ratio of Sufplui
to Liability is greater than that of any
other company.
