rnpHE undersigned, a Committee of Di-
JL rectors ot tlie quitauic lile As
surance Sqcicly of tho United States,
appointed to formulate the views of the
Board on the advantages offered by tlie
Society to tho public, report:
1st Tho Society issues all tho approv.
cd forms of assurance, including Ordi
nary Life, Endowment and Tontine po
licics. It is immaterial to the Directors
which form of policy is taken by in
2d The Life and Endowment forms
of policy provide for annunl cash divi
dends and. a surrender value; arc indis
putable after three years and payable
immediately after proof of death.
3d The premiums on a Tontine po
licy aro tho same as on the Ordinary
Life, but, while the latter is only pay
able in the event of death, the holder of
tho Tontine policy has the right to draw
the whole of tho reserve nnd tho accu
mulated profits in cash at the end of a
stated period; thus, during his own life
time, after his producing years aro past,
he can, without any Inrgcr premium
than on nn ordinary policy, secure these
4th Experience shows that tho return
paid in cash on maturing Tontine po
licies approximates to or exceeds the
amount of premiums paid by policy
holders, so that the average cost of the
assurance will be only about the interest
on Die premiums.
Cth Tontlno policies, like others, are
paid in full in tho event of death at any
time during the term of the policy, and
aro incontestable after threo years, and
payable immediately after duo proof of
0th Experience shows that the mor
tallty is lower among Tontino policy,
holders, as tho better lives seek tills
kind of assurances, which is a consider
nblo source of profit.
7th Tontlno policies will be mado
non-forfcitablo under the lawsiof tho
State, if so desired at tho time tho as
surnnco is ciTcctcd.
8lh Tho Tontine system is fair and
just; its accounts aro accurately kept.
scparato irom an otner business; tlie
funds judiciously invested and improv.
cd. and tho accumulated profits faith,
fully guarded and properly apnoitioncd.
0th Tho Society has kiiico its organl.
zation transacted a larger amount of
now business thnu any other company,
while its n'cw business for the first half
of tho present year is ?1, 700,000 larger
than that of tlie first half of 1881. It
