STATEMENT.
THE undersigned, a Committee of Di
rectors of the Equitable Lifo As
surance Society of tho United States,
appointed to formulnte the views of the
Board on the advantages offered by the
Society to the public, report:
1st The Society issues all the approv.
cd forms of assurance, including Ordl
nary Life, Endow mciit and Tontine po
licies. It is immaterial to tho Directors
which form of policy is taken by in
tending assurers.
2d The Life and Endowment forms
of policy provide for annual cash divi
dends and a surrender value; nrc hulls,
putablo after threo years and payable
immediately after pioof of death.
3d Tho premiums on a Tontine po
licy aro tho same as on tho Ordinary
Lifo, but, while the latter is only pay.
able in tho event of death, the holder of
tho Tontine policy has the right to draw
the wholo of tho rcscno and tho accu.
mulatcd proflts in rnsh at the end of a
stated period; thus, during his own life
time, after his producing years nro past,
ho can, without any laigcr premium
than on an ordinary polity, secure theso
greater advontuges.
4th Etpcrlenco shows that tho return
paid in cash on maturing Tontine no-
licics approximates" to or exceeds the
amount of promiums paid by policy
holders, so that tho average cost of tho
assurance will be only nbout tho interest
on the premiums.
0th Tontino policies, like others, nro
paid in full In tho event of death at any
limo during tho term of the policy, and
aro incontestable after three years, and
pnjablo immediately after duo proof of
death.
Cth Expericnco shows thut the mor.
tallty is lower among Tontino policy,
holders, as tho better lives seek this
kind of assurances, which is a consider,
able sourco of profit.
7th Tontino policies will bo mado
non-forfeitable under tho lawstof tho
State, If so desired at tho time tho as.
surnnco is effected.
8th Tho Tontino system is fair and
just; its accounts aro accurately kept,
separate from all other business; tho
funds judiciously invented aud improv.
cd, nnd tho accumulated profits faith,
fully guarded and properly apportioned.
9th Tho Society has sfneo its orgaui.
nation transacted n larger amount of
now business than any other company,
whilo its now business for tho first half
of tho present year Is $1,750,000 larger
than that of tho first half of 1681. It
has Assets of $ 00,000.000; over $14,000,
000 of Surplus, and its ratio of Surplus
to Liability Is greater than that of any
other company.
