AN EXAMPLE TO BE FOLLOWED.
The steamer Mokolii, about which
some anxiety was being felt, as she
was some days overiluu, came into
port last night, safe and sound. The
cause of her detention was rough
weather, which delayed the landing
of her cargo at Knlnupapa, Alolokal.
Wiltler's Steamship Company des
patched the Lchua, another steamer,
in search of the Mokolii, last even
ing. The searching steamer met the
missing steamer off Coco Head,
making for Honolulu, nnd they both
came into port together, an hour or
two later, allaying all fears. For
tunately, the Mokolii was in no dis
tress and needed no help, but no
body knew that here, and Wilder' s
Steamship Company did a commend
able deed in sending n steamer at
once to ascertain, when suflicicnt
time had elapsed to afford grounds
to fear that something was wrong.
The example should bo followed in
other quarters. Several months ago
the General Sciglc, a small schooner,
left Honolulu on a sharking expedi
tion to French Frigate Shoals, and
is, we are informed, n long time
overdue on her return. People here
who had friends aboard have strong
fears that something has gono wrong
with the schooner and her crew, and
think some vessel should have been
sent in search long ago. Tho schooner
may have stranded, and her people
may bo dragging out a miserable
cxistenco on some lumen coral reef,
or many other things may have
happened, which could possibly bo
mended by n relief expedition. No
body knows. Hut everybody knows
that the schooner is missing. Human
ity demands that something should
bo done, and the duty of doing it
devolves upon her owners, tho Pacific
