HAWAIIAN GENEALOGY.
HAZY SUtULCT U.I.tJSTIlATCU I1Y. A
fll'ASMOUtC bTEIIUOl'lICOX.
A very slim audience, as to num
bers, visited tlie rooms of the School
of Dcslun last, evening, when I'Vrd.
Lee Clarke, "Member of the Ha
waiian Board of Genealogy," ninelu
his third appearance befoto n San
Francisco audience. The previous
efforts were unfortunate in tegntd
to location, for they wero attempted
in tho Academy of Sciences, which
is too scientifically solemn for tho
full piny of Mr. Clarke's Illustrated
rhetoric, and comes as near being
fatal to anything poetic or spiritu
clle as would n morgue. The lec
turer, however, belongs to such an
exalted position on the pay-roll of
Kalakaua, Hex., that he docs not
mind the surroundings, and his aim
seems to bo to teach the outside
barbarians the bottom facts regard
ing Hawaiian mythology and the
genealogy of bis royal patron. "The
Member Hawaiian Board of Gene
alogy" is generally assisted by a
stercopticon. 'Whenever it is nicely
oiled, and the donkey pump in good
working order, it affords an agree
able variety, but last night the ma
chine was tired of life. The first
things to be made clear to the audi
ence were the charts of the Malay
sian Archipelago and tho Hawaiian
Islands. The M. A. didn't loom tip
worth a cent on tlie whito sheet, but
tho h. i. s. were as nebulous as
Orion's worlds through a street
binocular. Liko Ajax tho "Member
Hawaiian Board of Genealogy"
roared lustily for "light." His stal
wart attendant placed his ponder
osity on the gasbag of the machine,
and so long ns ho stiaddlcd the bag
the views were O. K.. but this make
shift was unsatisfactory, for every
time u new occne was put in the gas
bag would let up, and thus keep the
audience and the "M. II. B. G." on
the "ragged edge." The greater
part of the evening was devoted to a
eulogy of Kamchamelia I and his
family. There was nothing new
furnished, and whatever was stated
had been given to the world long
years ago by tho facile pen of James
Jackion Jarvis. There were some
fair views of Honolulu and its pub
lic buildings, but the descriptive ac
companiment was almost woitliless.
There w ill be two more attempts to
instinct San Francisco people by
Ford. Leu Claike, M. II. B. G., at
tho samo place, with tho snmo acces
sories. S. F. Bulletin.
MASONIC DEMONSTRATION.
It is now definitely arranged that
a grand Masonic demonstrtaion
shall be held iu London in comme
moration of Her Majesty's Jubilee.
According to a circular issued to
the masters of lodges by tho Fro
Grand Master, the Earl of Carnar
von, there will be a grtfat represent
ative meeting of English Freemasons
in tho Albert IlaU, South Kensing
ton, when tho Gtand Master, His
Royal Highness the Prince of Wales,
will preside, and an address of con
gratulation to Her Majesty will be
agiecd to. In consequence of the
bpnee of tho Albeit Hall being in
adequate for the accommodation of
all tho Masons who oro desirous of
being present to witness the impos
ing spectacle, tho promoters of the
gathering have found.it necessary
to limit tho number of tickets to
five for each of the 2,000 odd lodges
in the United Kingdom, and much
regret has been expressed that a
larger building, such as Olympia,
could not havo been secured. Ar-
rangements,.however, aie in course
of being cai'rictl out for a great
many minor festivities among Free
masons in conncction-with the Jubi
lee celebration, which in a measure
tend to allay any feeling of disap
pointment on the part of those who
are uuablo to obtain admission to
the Albert JIall demonstration. The
Earl of Carnarvon reports that he
has recpived oyer n thousand letters
from various patts 'of tho country
in which contributions aro promised
by Masonic Lodges and others to
the fund of tho Imperial Institute.
Tho exact date for tho monster
Masonic gathering, which bids fair
to eclipse- that which took placo at
the Albert Hall when the Prlnco of
AVales was installed Most Worship
ful Grand Master in 1875, is not yet
fixed, but it will be during tho week
commencing on Juno 13th next.
Soveral members of the Bar havo
recently sent in applications to tho
Lord Chancellor for the honor of
being recommended to tho Queen
for appointment to tho rank of Her
Majesty's Counsel, and wo under
stand that it is very probable that a
considerable number of barristers
will bo fao appointed .this year in
honor of Her Majesty's Jubilee.
fllomo News,
Tho municipal authorities of
Lyons, Rennls, Montpelier, Lipy
and other places htwo petitioned
1'iesidcnt Grevy to. retain Qcncrnl
Boulapger iu tho Cnbjnet.
An accident happened yesterday
on board the now French ironclad,
Hugiiesolln, hy which two members
of tho crew wero killed nntl seven
teen badly injured, No information
as to tho nature of tho accident has
been received.
Heavy gales, accompanied hy
snow, and hail, and thunder and
lightning, continuo with unnbatcd
violence in England.
