FOOD ADUTERATIONS.
Editor Bulletin: An article on
impure articles of food is quite op
poitunc considering the enormous
quantities of staple articles imported
here from Europe. An English law
obliges "those who put up or manu
facture articles for consumption to
print on the label pure, if they are
pure;" but no intimation if they
are adulterated. Purchasers will
do well to bear this in mind. X.
THE EACLE HOUSE.
Mrs. N. Butcher has taken over
the management of the Eagle House,
Nuuanu Avenue, and will carry it on
as a first class lodging and boarding
house. The location of this cstab
Iishnientishealthyand within conven
ient and easy reach of the business
centre of the city. The house itself
is comfortably arranged in all its
departments for the purposes for
which it is being used. The lady
now in charge is well adapted for tho
position she holds, and lias had ex
perience in the same line of business
elsewhere. Persons in need of the
accommodations furnished by a well
appointed lodging and boarding
house, whether residents of the city
or transient visitors, will find at the
Eagle House comfortable rooms and
beds, good and wholesome food,
polite and thoughtful attention, and
a cordial welcome.
MISCHIEF.
Some person or persons have been
cutting the U. S. S. Mohican's tele
phone wire, and thus through spite
or for the love of deviltry, severed
the ship's telephonic communica
tions with the city. Though it may
be considered a practical joke by
some, the officers of the vessel do
not see anything funny in it. And
what is more, the trick must occa
sion considerable swearing, first at
the telephone company, then at the
wire cutter. Furthermore, the Mo
hican is about to depart for Samoa,
and it seems mean to deprive her
people of the innocent pleasure of
gossiping over the wire, when their
time is limited. In conclusion, it
might be said that if the wire cutter
Is caught, and the ladies get hold of
him, he'll soon be baldhcadcd.
BLUE RIBBON LEAGUE.
The entertainment given by
this
society on Saturday night, was
largely attended. Tho public turn
ing out in good force, shows that
the attempts of the society to pro
vide gratuitous entertainments, are
appreciated, The progrummo was
well presented. The juvenile parts
taken by Mastoi'3 Dexter and Dil
lingham and Miss Dexter, were ex
ceedingly well reudcreu anil ciicitett
deserved applause. Tho singing by
Mrs. Paty, Miss Dressier, Miss May
Dillingham and Mr. Starkey, was
exceptionally fine, and each number
was so loudly and persistently ap
plauded, that the singers had to
respond to the encore. Tho read
ing of "The Early Settler's Story,"
by Miss Prescott, was a gem. This
talented lady's distinctness of enun
ciation and power of expression,
had full scope iu this most thrilling
narrative, and ovcry sceno and in
cident was most realistic. The en
