over a debauch, is about twenty
four miles from Boyiout , Syria,
and is tho ancient Bidon or Zidon.
In 1850 gold coins of tho time of
Alexander, valued at $-10,000, were
unearthed there, and it was while at
the head of the French exploring
expedition there in 1800 that M.
Kenan picked up a good many of
the points which he used in his fa

A BANKRUPT WHO PAID ENOUGH.
Very few people outside of busi
ness circles have any idea how much
profit there is on certain lines of

throws considerable light on tho
A country merchant not far from
Austin, who docs nil his trading in
this city, became financially embar
assed. Being an honest man he
came to Austin to notify his credi
tors of his condition. One of his
creditors is Mosc Schaumburg.
"Yell, vat arc you going to do mit
your greditors?" asked Mosc. "I
am able to pay 10 cents on the dol
lar, but in your case it is different.
I have not opened that last lot of
goods I bought of you, so instead of
paying 10 cents on the dollar I'll
just return you the goods. I am
willing to do this because I'm your
friend." "Kf you vos a good friond
by me," replied Mosc, grinning,
"you will bay 10 cents on dor tol
lar. I makes more money so den
