TWO OIL PAINTINGS.
In King Bros, art gallery, may be
seen two panel oil paintings, one a
bunch of ohias or mountain apples,
the other a bunch of mangoes. They
were painted by Miss P. E. Bishop
and are perfect little gems. So
faithful are they to naturo that one
is almost tempted to pick the fruit.
A close examination discloses the
most artistic work.
DEPARTURE OF THE LIKELIKE.
There was an unusual crowd of
people on the wharf yesteiday to
witness the departure of the Like
like for Maui with the Knights of
PythiaB excursion party onr board.
The flag recently presented to Mys
tic Lodge by Mrs. and Miss Ilas
singer, was flying from the steamer's
mainmast. Punctually at five
o'clock the steamer left her dock,
amid cheers from the croud on the
wharf. The members of the Hawai
ian band gave several native airs as
the steamer passed out the channel.

WHYTfiJS" DIFFERENCE?
Editor Bulletin: As a well
wisher of tho Islands, I would like
to know how it is that men-of-wars
men of overy nation, but that of the
Unitod States, aro arrested merely
for safe keeping, while those of the
United States have to pay line. Is
it because there is a dominant Eng
lish party hero or that the American
element is in a hopeless minority?
Anyway tho fact remains, that Am
erican men-of-wars men have to pay
fines and English men-of-wnrs men
have not.
