The Mariposa arrived at 8 o'clock
Sunday morning, from San Fran
cisco, having been detained one day
waiting for the English mails. She
brought 27 cabin and 1 1 steerage
passengers for this poit, aud had in
transit for the Colonies 41 cabin and
14 in the steerage. Her caigo was
valued at 8137,913 manifested as
follows: Honolulu $18,332, Austra
lia, S10.'),008,Ncw Zealand, 13,2CI,
Fiji Islands $fiG8, Apia S4G. She
left for the Colonies at 8 :30 o'clock
About twenty minutes past nine
o'clock Saturday night, a native dis
covered fire in a house corner of
Kinau and Piikoi streets. An alaim
was turned in by Mr. F. P. Hastings
which was responded to by the fiie
department. Mrs. John II. Brown
owns tho house and it was occupied
by Mrs. Thicle. The latter with her
family were in town at tho time.
The house was burned to the ground
nothing but a chair being saved.
The furniture was insured for S2000
and the house for $1250.
At St. Andrew's Cathedral to
morrow, the order of services will

THE FAIR. '"
Pressure on our space compels a
full report of Saturday's fair to be
deferred. Tho interior of tho Rides
Armory, wiiere it was held presented
a most magnificent appearance. It
was a sight rarely seen in this city.
The different booths appeared to do
n thriving business, aud tho net pro
ceeds should show a large sum, to
add to tho funds of the IIoouu nnd
Iloola Society. The Royal Hawai
ian band played during tho after
noon and ovening.

MR. CRAENHALGH'S AFFAIRS.
By the Mariposa letters were re
ceived from W. H. Grnenhalgh,
dated San Francisco, in which he
states that his father's estate had
been settled, and his brother was on
his way from the East with the
money. He found that some ono of
his creditors had tried to garnishee
the money. Mr. Graenhnlgh further
states that lie was about to leave for
Loudon, and on ins return come to
the islands, pay 100 cents on the
dollar and settle down here for good
as the climate suited him.
This morning Mr. T. G. Thrum
took possession of Gracnhalgh's
store, believing he had tho right to
do so under the mortgage.
