A RARE OPPORTUNITY.
The Japanese steamship Takasago
Maru will leave Honolulu for Japan
and China on the 2nd January,
1880, returning to Honolulu in the
following March. This will afford
an opportunity that rarely occurs to
people on these islands for visiting
thoso countries and getting back
homo again. The steamer will re
main in China and Japan ports
about four weeks, thus giving time
to see something of those countries.
The round trip will cost, first cabin
$250, second cabin 8120. The ac
commodation on the Takasago Maru
is excellent, as anyone can sec for
himself by a visit to that vessel,
which is now at the Pacific Mail
Company's wharf, Messrs. Irwin
& Co., aro agents, and will gladly
furnish any additional information
that may bo sought by intending
passengers.

AT LAST.

George lions a fashionably dress
ed young German, was arrested
this noon by Capt. Larseu on a
warrant charging hitu with keeping
a disorderly house contrary to chap
ter -12 Section 2 of the Penal Code,
lions was taken to the Station House
and after the charge had been en
tered against him, gave bail in the
sum of $100 for his appearance in
the Police Court Friday morning.
Geo. Iloughtailing went his surety.
lions lived upstairs in a house
on Union street opposite the Fashion
Stables. The police have had for a
long time past a strong suspicion
that gambling was carried on there.
Complaints have been lodged at the
Station House about the place.
Capt. Larscn has been on the look
out for sometime for a way to get
into the house in double quick time.
This morning between the hours
of one and two o'clock he accom
plished his object with very little
trouble. Taking along two native
police officers as eye witnesses, Lar
sen approached the house aud work
ing his way to the back of the pre
mises in a careful manner found a
window open. "With club in hand
he shot through tho open window
into a room where was lions and
half a dozen of Honolulu's young
bloods shaking dice for half dollar
corners. "It was the worst scared
crowd I ever saw," said Larsen to a
reporter this morning. Larsen put
on one of his sweet smile3 and told
the young men lie was very sorry to
disturb their game but lie thought
he would just like to see how they
were getting along, and was pre
paring to levea by the window when
lions politely let him out by the
door. If the names of those found
in the room were made public there
is no doubt it would cause quite a
little sensation in town. For the
present they arc withheld.
ABOUT YASTE PAPER.
Editoh Bulletin: One of our
prominent Fort street lawyers is ovi
dcntly not in the possession of a
waste paper basket, for every morn
ing on the corrugated iron awning
directly in front of his window may
be seen large pieces of waste paper
and other things. Sometimes the
wind blows the paper on to the
street and in its descent frightens
horses. Then again it does not
look nice from the street to see a heap
of rubbish in such a place.
