letter says, "Tho contents of the
box to hand prove to bo a living
specimen of Icerya Purchasii, some
times called the Cottony Cushion
scale. It is ono of the most dread
ed pests with which tho horticultu
rist has to deal. It was brought
to this Stato from Australia and has
already spread over a large area of
territory, and lias utterly ruined tv
very great number of fruit and
shade trees. Lately a parasite, the
Wcdolia Cardinalis, has been im
ported from Australia, and it will
we hope eventually exterminate tho
