VALVOLINE is an earth oil specially prepared under the hichest steam
heat and from which all volatile and earthy matter has been expolled by a
process which leaves a pure and heavy oil, which prevents the eating away
of bolts and keeps the cylinder and piston packing perfectly clean. This
was the first Mineral Oil introduced for steam cylinders and has been in con

MAUI NOTES.
The Rov. T. L. Gulick returned
to his homo by tho steamer Likoltko
on Wednesday last, much improved
in health from his sojourn on tho
Coast. A surpriso party towolcomo
him home was contemplated for
Wednesday evening, but tho incle
ment weather kept nearly cvorybody
al Home. I ho few that wcro tlicro,
however, spent a pleasant evening
in social converse.
Tho deal in sugar plantation
stocks that was vaguely hinted at in
a recent issue of tho Bulletin, has
been consummated, nnd in a short
timo you will probably hear of the
consolidation of Bomo of our
plantations into ono gigantic cor
poration, vfith ono of Maui's most
successful plantation owners and
managers at tho head.
Tho weather still continues rainy,
but as it is planting season nobody
growls.
A most enjoyable farowcll party
was given at tho residenco of Mr. C.
II. Dickey at Haiku, on Monday
night last, for Masters Harry Bald
win and Willie Dickey, and Miss
Maud Baldwin, all of whom leave
on the next steamer for tho United
States to attend Bchool. They will
be missed very much, as they havo
a largo circle of friends who wish
them "bon voyage" and a happy
school life.
The Rev. W. D. Westervclt has
returned to his missionary work
among tho natives and Asiatics
of Maui. His labor among tho
haoles while temporarily filling tho
pulpit of Makawno foreign church,
during the absence of its pastor, the
Rev. T. L. Gulick, will be long felt
and deeply appreciated by all the
residents of the district. His genial
and kindly nature and earnest Chris
tian work has made him many-lifelong
friends, all of whom wish him
the success he so richly deserves in
his labor among tho heathen.
Politics are dull, and interest in
legislative matters is lagging. Oc-casionally-whcn
any important mea
sure has been before the house com
ments upon its merits maybe heard,
but at other times not a word. Pro
bably we are too far away from the
Bcene of action to be particularly
anxious about what our representa
tives arc doing.
There was a rumor that became
widespread that P. M. G. Wunden
berg had been removed and Judge
Geo. E. Richardson, of Wailuku,
had been appointed to fill the
vacancy, but as no official notice of
such a change has appeared we pre
sume it is a canard.
Mr. Millward, who a short timo
ago received serious injuries by be
ing thrown from a brake, has almost
entirely recovered and will shortly
resume his work on iraia plantation.
The long talked of and much
needed school at Bpreckclsville is
about to be started. Tho Inspector
General of Schools was there last
week, and located a site for the
building, which we understand will
be constructed at once. N.
