CHURCHLY REFLECTIONS.
Fiom her summer trip she had just ic

day;
She thought of the offeiB alio had spum

And her nelghbois noticed her pensive

And looked In vain for the mystic

While a spinster, neither young nor fair.

BETTER THAN INOANDiSCENT
LIGHT.
Editou Bulletin :
The Avertiser is on the "steal"
again 1 This time it is on the ram
page to steal the prior right of the
incandescent light for the Govern
ment. Mr. Quill-driver of the Adverti&er,
at the end of '87 or the beginning of
'88 whilom Minister Thurston refus
ed to grant a charter to a company,
which at the time was forming here,
to light Honolulu with incandescent
light.
Names are at your disposal.

A NEW PUZZLE.
A farmer sent )iis three sons to
market with eggs. To the first son
he gave 10 eggs ; to the second 30
eggs and to the third fiO eggs. He
enjoined his three sons to sell their
eggs for the same rate, or price, and
for each to bring back to him the
same amount of money. Illustra
tion : If the first son sold his 10 eggs
for 50 cents then the other two sons
must sell their eggs at the same
rate, i. e., at the rate of 10 eggs for
50 cents and yet return the same
amount of money each, as the first
son did.
Who will be the first to work out
this mathematical puzzle and send
the answer to the Bulletin office
for publication?
