As a number of our cattlo ranch
ers have imported animals from the
herd ot Rev. Mr. Williams, the fol
lowing is clipped from the Hawke's
Hay Weekly Courier of Oct. 17th :
The classes for cattle were only
moderately filled, and were all hut
confined to shorthorns. In quality,
however, there was nothing left to
be desired. The costly importa
tions of the Rev. S. Williams and
others have left their mark on their
descendants, and some really grand
young stock were on the ground,
and would have scored points at any
show in the colony. Especially
worthy of mention was the young
bull Rlby Royal, who wns awarded
the championship for the best bull
on the ground. He was bred by the
Rev. S. Williams, und was undoubt
edly the grandest animal ever shown
on the Hastings giound, and quali
fied judges expressed the opinion
that he would have scored high lion
oi s at any show in the world. Mr.
Williams' last importations from
England, Riby Filz David, and the
bull by Noithein Chief Winning
Bride, were not on the ground, but
they must have been good indeed to
wiest the piize from Riby Royal.
Ho is one of twins, and his mother
took second honors. The Rev. H.
Williams, the Hon. II. R. RusscU
nud Mr. Rathbone divided the hon
ors, the last-named securing the
champion awurd for the best cow.
For the test Mr. Orr sent a couple
of Polled Angus, and Mr. Boyle one
Ayrshire, which had no competitors
in their classes. The Rev. S. Wil
liams "swept the boaid" in the fat
outtl2 clases with six pens of mag
