REGISTRATION MEETINGS.
EoiTon Bui.m-.tin:
1 have read several of tho inspect
ors' notices for meetings lor correct
ing the roll or voting lists, and unless
attention is called to the fact the
new election law will not have been
complied with in some respects. For
instance, precinct 2d of first district,
precinct 2d of third district, and
precinct 1st of fifth district all ad
vertise meetings to he held not later
than Janunry aotli. Now my read
ing of the law (section 13) is that no
meetings arc to be held for live days
before the election. For that reason
I have advertised that my precinct
shall hold meotinsrs not later than
Januarv 28th. Atinin. 1 think the
same suction contemplates that meet
ings are only to ho held in the pre
cincts, and nowhere else. Now 1 dud
that in the 2d precinct of the first
disliiet it is proposed by the inspect
ors thereof to hold meetings out
side of their precinct. I am afraid
those will not be valid meetings which
are held outside of the precincts.
By calling attention to this it may
tend to rectify what might hereafter
appear to be serious mistakes.

LETTER FROM MR. MARQUES.
Euitou Bum.utin:
In relation to the editorial in your
yesterday's issue, on my humble per
son, you are quite welcome to regret
the money that my bills and reports
cost probably because you did not
do the printing and nobody more
than myself regrets the time and
woik I wasted in the last Legislature,
trying to do my duty to the country.
But I would wish you to he more
correct when you occupy yourself of
my doings. 1 was not the author of
an "impracticable census law,"
whose real author was, I believe, one
of your patrons, prompted by one of
the present candidates of the Reform
National party. Neither did I pre
sent a "cremation bill." Hoping
that in spite of partisan differences,
your known impartiality will make
you find in your paper a little space
for the rectifications, I remain, yours
truly, A. Mauquus.
FOREIGN 'POSTAGE.
Kditok Bumxtin:
Our system of postage rates to
Europe and other places is to many
a mystery. Would our P. M. G.
kindly give the public an explanation
why we aie charged Jouble rates. It
is presumed we are in the Postal
Union. For example, a letter comes
to us postage 2.UI. or say 5 cents;
our letter back, same weight mark
you, costs 10 cents postage. Is this
some more of the discipline we arc
going through at Uncle Sam's hands?
Same to Japan. In other countiics
postage rates are published. Why
are not ours? So as to avoid asking
the rate at the window.

REQUEST FOR PAPERS.
Emtok Ruu.i:tin:
Will all readers of this paper, who
are interested in the sailors, leave
such papers and magazines as they
can spare from their homes at the

the seamen. Illustrated literature is
of special value.

A FAVORITE REMEDY.
Chamberlain's Cough Remedy is a
favorite during the winter months on
account of its great success in the
cure of colds. There is nothing thai
will loosen a severe cold so quickly,
or as promptly relieve the lungs.
Then it counteracts any tendency to
ward pneumonia. It is pleasant and
safe to take, and fully worth' of its
popularity. For sale by all dealers,
