THE COMET'S PROGRESS.
The comet is in declination 20 de
grees north, and light ascension 22
hours and ISO minutes. That was its
position on the morning of May 1st.
To find it without the regular "liv
ings," note where the sun is these
days a little be'oie 8 o'clock in the
morning. A few degrees north of
there is just whete the comet will be
at four a. m. (the next day of course).
Set your alarm clock for :i h. 4i m.,
ami set your glass for long range
focus the night before. Don't get up j
unless tlie sky is clear! i
You will sec a nebulous-looking i
star of between the third and fouith j
magnitude, south of a nianglc of !
stars, and in range with tlie base of I
said triangle. It is neai the north- i
west corner of what is called tho 1
"bquaio of Pegasus." Now if you
turn your glass on it, it will have i
decidedly a llery appuiuanco with n '
tail two or three degrees in length. It !
is no doubt rapidly oypnTUelnng both
the earth and the sun. C. ,. L.

The handicap nice in which Geo.

won by Giles, 20 yanls ahead of

more interest in a wheel race on a
regular track, where speolatois could
witness it from start to finish. Much
credit is due II. Giles for winning
tlio second race, as he unified and
came in second in the Hist nice.
