held in the Chamber of Commerce
room yesterday. The Physician's
quarterly report was read and or
dered published as follows :
Honolulu, May 31, 1892.
TO THE TllUSTKES OF THE QUEEN'S
Gentlemen: I have the honor to
submit the following report for the
quarter ending May 31, 1892:
The number of patients at present
in the hospitnl is 75, viz., -14 Hnwal
inns (29 males, 15 females), 3 Chi
nese, 10 Japanese aud 18 of other
nationalities; 27 paying.
The number of admissions during
the quarter was 120; viz., II Ilawai
lans (30 males, 11 females), 2 Chi
nese, 24 Japanese and 53 of other
Disoh.iigcd 110; viz., 31 Iluwai
ians (21 males, 13 females), 1 Chi
nese, 23 Japanese and 52 of other
Deaths 13; viz., 3 Hawaiians,
males, 1 Chinese, 3 Japanese and 0
of other nationalities.
The causes of death were as fol
lows: accident l,apoh!exyl, Bright's
disease 1, consumption G, heait di
sease 8, septicaemia 1.
The highest number of indoor
patients was 8C, lowest G4 ; daily
Calls at the Dispensary 10. Num
ber of prescriptions 2701. The num
ber of patients treated in the Hospi
tal was as follows: March, 123;
April, 107 ; May, 105.
The serai-annual report of the
Treasurer showed 539.98 due him.
A favorable report on the condition
of the hospital, with high praise of
the nurses, was presented by the
visiting committee. Mr. llruco Cart
wright submitted a draft of rules for
the regulation of the services of phy
sicinns in connection with the hospi
tal. The election of a House Physi
cian was deferred for two months,
to give time for deliberation on the
matter of changes that may be found
desirable in the medical department.
The Board re-elected the following
officers: Mr. F. A. Sohaofer, Secre
tary; .Mr. J. II. l'aty, Treasurer;
Hon. J. S. Walker, Auditor; Hon.
Chas. 11. Bishop, Mr. A. J. Cart
wright, Hon. A. S. Cleghom, Mr. J.

suing quarter was appointed as fol

Minister of the Interior.
Mr. J. P. Blui.e, an extensive real
estate dealer in Des Moines, Iowa,
narrowly escaped on" of the severest
attacks of pneumonia while in the
northern part of that state during a
recent blizzard, says the Suturdtiy
lleuiew. Mr. Blai.e had occasion to
(hive several miles during the storm
and was so thoroughly chilled that
he wis unable to get warm, and in
side of an hour alter his return he
was threatened with a severe case of
pneumonia or lung fever. Mr. Blaize
bent to the nearest ding store and
got a bottle of Chambei Iain's t'ougli
uemetiy, ot which lie had often
heard, and took a number of large
doses. He says the effect was won
derful and that in a short lime he
was breathing quite easily. He kept
on taking the medicine and Hie next
day was able to come to Des Moines.
Mr. Blaize regaids his cine as simply
