WATER, A8 A MEDICINE.
Ono of tho Vory Host RomocHal
Agonts Known to Scionco.
Tho human body is constant ly
umlorgojnu tissno Vlinngo. AVorn
out pnrticios nro cnt nsitlo and elim
inated from tho system, while tho
now aro over being formed, from tho
inception of life to its close. Water
has tho powor of increasing theso
tissuo changes which multiply tho,
wasto products, but at the same
timo thoy aro ronowed by its agency,
giving nso to increased apputito,
which in turn provides fresh nutri
ment. Persons but little accustomed to
drink water aro liable to have tho
wasto products formed faster than
thoy aro removed. Any obstruction
to tho freo worlrinir of natural laws
at onco produces disease, which, if
once firmly seated, requires both
timo and 11101103' to euro.
People accustomed to riso in the
morning weak and languid will find
tho cause in the imperfect secretion
of wastes, which ninny times may bo
romedied by drinking a full tumbler
of water boforo retiring. This vory
materially assists in the process dur
ing tho night, and leaves tissues
fresh and strong and ready for tho
active work of tiio day.
Hot water is one of the best re
medial agents. A hot bath on going
to bed, oven in tho hot nights of
summer, is a better reliovor of in
somnia than many drugs. Inflated
parts will subside under the con
tinued poulticing of real hot water.
Vory hot water, as wo all know, is a
prompt checker of bleeding, and bo
sides, if it is clean, as it should bo, it
aids in sterilizing our wounds. A
riotous stomach will nearly always
gratefully receive a glass or more of
hot water. Hall's Journal of Health.
The Venezuela Revolution.
Tho civil war which has boon
raging in Venezuela since tholbcgin
ning of tho year, has beon, it is to bo
hoped, brought to a closo by tho
triumph of the forces of tho consti
tutionalists under General Crospo.
The war began in consequonco of
tho ambition and arrogance of ox
Prosidont I'alacio, whobo term was
about to close, and who wished a
continuance of powor in 1 ho face of
the constitution, which forbade it.
When Congress refused to altar tho
constitution, ho blocked its way and
finally dissolved it, and also tho
Jiidiciar' system of tho country, bo
foro which ho might have been
brought on a charge of treason to
tho Kepublie. General Urespo, a
former Piesident and the favorite
captain of Guzman Blanco in his
long struggle for federalism, headed
tho cause of tho people, which at
first seemed well nigh nopeles. Ho
managed to raiso an army in tho
interior and to defeat all tho forces
sent out against him on his march
to the coast. I'alacio tied to Trini
dad in Juno last and loft Vico-Pro-sidont
Yillegas as tho head of tho
executive. Villcgas and his minis
tors have now tied also, and General
Crospo will be loft with a clear fiold,
and will piobably restore tho con
stitution, call Congress and reorgan
ize, or rather recall into existence,
tho suppressed judicial system.
Venezuela is ono of tho most pros
perous of South American republics.
She has a territorial dispute with
Groat Britain, in which rich gold
mines and tho domination of tho
mouth of tho Orinoco aro involved,
and she will now have timo to settle
this affair. Montreal Witness.
A Hawaiian Feast in San Francisco.
Last Saturday evening a unique
feast was given in the Southern Pa
cific Restaurant, on the occasion of
tho return to this city from tho Ha
waiian Islands of Mr. .Tack Mayers,
tho son of tho proprietor.
Since his return a number of
tho friends of the young man form
od a club and adopted the naino of
"Hila-Hiln," and among tho mom
bore aro a number who for a timo
woro residents of tho islands. On
tho ovoning of the day named thoy
gave tho banquet or feast in honor
of Mr. Moyers, who was chosen pre
sident of tho club. Tho banquet
room had beon decorated in tho
manner in which tho kanakas decor
ate their banquet halls. There woro
palm fans hero and there, and tho
American and Hawaiian Hags woro
intertwined in graceful folds. At
ono ond of tho room was "Aloha" in
yellow chrj'santhomums, and tho
nnmo of tho club, "Hila-Hila," also
worked in flowers, was suspended
from tho chandelier. Tho members
woro all attired in white flannel
shirts and white llannol trousers,
with a black silk sash at tho waist.
Each member woro a flowing black
necktie. Aftor the dinnor had beon
disposed of thoro was American and
Hawaiian melody. Those present
