Thoro 1ms huou a good dwil said
about t ho honltli louturors thnt have
rucoiitlv come to our islands. I, too,
would liko to say n word.
I liau nttcndi'd Dr. Potts' locturos
and )iao liunrd nothing to shock
any pnru-uiindud person. The one
who wroto the article in last even
ing's issno of your paper, headed
'"Tlio Visiting Lecturers." showed
their ignorance when they said "for
vulgaiisin, immodesty, and I might,
say indecency, this community has
noor heard the like." That person
knows ery little about this com
munity when ho sneaks liko that. It
would bo a good deal bettor for him
if ho knew a little of what Dr. Potts
and Dr. Harrison know.
Some of the fathot.s and mothers
who thiow up their hands in horror
al what has been said in these lec-tuie-5,
would rather their young .sons
and daughters would steal away
from them and read about such
things on tho sly, than to go into
those lectures with those ory sons
and daughters and let thorn hear
pure words from pure lips.
Tho word of God declares, '"Know
o not that your body is the temple
of tho Holy Ghosl which is in you,
which jo hao of God, and 30 are
not your own? For jo aro bought
with a price; therefore, glorify Uod
in jour body, and in 3-011 r spirit,
which aro God's." How can wo
glorif' God in our bodies if wo
know nothing about those bodies
and do not try to know anything
In order to bo teachers parents
must be learneis. xnd thoy should
toacli their children that a disregard
of moral law will oist wherever
thoro is a wilful disregard of plysical
law. Teach theni that thoy must
practice temperance, purity in
thought and heait and act. Those
whoso moral faculties aro beclouded
by disease aio not tho ones riirhtlr
to reprosont tho Christian lifo'or the
beauties of holiness, and tho best
way is to learn something about our
selves that wo mav keep disease
away. Supposing all is truo that
has been said about Dr. Hariison (I
doubt it), is that anyone's business?
Do wo hao to answer for his sins?
Does all that make these lectures
impure? Whoa it comes to talk of
that kind tho people of this com
munity had better keep quiet for it
strikes too near homo. And there
are alwaj's two sides to oorj story.
Honolulu always seems to take to
the blackest sido of anything. Wo
cannot bcliov o all wo hear now adays,
nor half what wo seo. Do not bo un
charitable. Wife and Mother.
Tho Visiting Doctors.
All parsons conursniil with
tnnlo maladies, must roalizo of what
vital importance it is that, tliuir treat -inont
should bo conducted by coni
liotont and reliable surgeons! The
most cruel and often fatal injury re
sults from hasty, careless, or ignor
ant treatment. In hardly any other
sphere of human interest should the
claim and qual ideations of professed
specialists be more severely scrutin
i, and 3011, and most of tho com
munity aro incompetent to examine
the credentials of Messr.. Harrison
and Mrs. Longhoiu-l'otts. Thoy
may be all that thoj' profess to bo;
or thoy may .bo such as The Liberal
has proclaimed them. Manifestly
tho medical corps of Honolulu aro
tho only competent judges of this.
Do thoy bring full certificates of
their reliability from tho leading
lights in medicine in thu States and
obpuuially in California? Hao thoo
certificates been submitted to tho
medical experts of Honolulu, and
been found to bo authentic? Until
a clear alliruiathu can bo given in
reply to these-(juostious, lot us ro

Tho injuries sustained by tho War

a lirst-clnss twin s-crow cruiser, ar

not as largo as tho Warspito, tho

more modern cruiser, built of stool
