Tho otheroveninga party of1 ladies
and gentlemen were being conducted
through tho mill under theeourteous
guidance of .Messrs. Win. Eassie, G.
II. Fail child, F. 13. .Smith and
Stephen King, when an episode took
place, that dampened the ardor of
our very popular and esteemed
young "friend, Bro. Smith. In
acknowledging a witty reply of his
fair lady companion, he made one of
his graceful salaams, lost his equi
librium and fell into about seven
feet of water contained in a largo
tank beneath him. The ladies
screamed as usual, the gentlemen
rushed to the rescue, and when
Smith's golden locks appealed upon
the surface for the third and last
time, thev were seized by strong
hands and he was drawn out to life
and safety. Air. Smith lost his "tile,"
which being drawn into one. of the
pumps, necessitating the shutting
down of tho mill, may involve him
in a suit for damages.
Tho shipments of sugar from this
mill amount to .'5137 bags already,

a broad gauge grin.
Sunday evening, Mrs. JJufiis C.
Spalding gave an elaborate dinner
to tho gentlemen of her acquaint

home, Kealia, which was a gastro

generally. Mrs. Spalding's delight fill
hospitality is too well known and ap

Then dancing was indulged in,
upon the spacious verandas, and
after a waltz or two, Mr. 13. F. Smith
favored us with a very pretty and
well rendered solo, entitled ''You,"
by Alfred Hobyn. Next was a
quartet song, ''Sweet and Low," by
Mrs. C. 13. Makee, Miss Katie LimT

ful blending of .sweet voices and was
received with gioat applause.
Then followed a comic recitation
by l- 13. Smith by which all present
were convulsed with laughter. Smith
is decidedly funny.
The next was a duet bv Messrs.
