THE SILVER OOXFErtENCE.
Tho Chicago Horald of Doc. 6 has
tho following: Sonator Stowart of
Nevada passed through Ghicago yes
terday .on his way to Washington,
and spont a few hours at tho Grand
Pacific. "Wo aro going to have freo
silver in this country somo day," said
tho Sonator, "but when, of course, I
will not attempt to say. One thing
is cortain, neither tho Democratic
nor Ropublican party can give it to
us, but tho pooplo will. The rosult
of tho recent election shows that
tho pooplo aro dissatisfied with tho
prosont condition of affairs, and as
long as tho prosont condition pro
vails thoro will boa chango each yoar
until tho people tako a hand and
oust both tho old parties and got
into power thomsolvos.
"What tho pooplo want is more
money. They caro littlo about
changed tariff lists, civil sorvico re
form, prohibition or woman's suff
rage. The vital issuo is tho money
question. Until tho freo coiuago of
silver is brought about tho condition
of tho common pooplo will not
materially chango.
"I havo not hoped for any good
from tho conferouco at Brussels. It
was organized for ovil, but somo
timos good results from oven such
organization. Tho gold bugs aro in
powor, and tho silver nion can hardly
hopo for favors from thoir hands. I
can't loll how many friends silvor
will havo in tho noxt Congress. I
think there will bo an increase in
tho Sonato, at any rate."

Notice to the Public.
The Honest People of Honolulu:
Tho Shirt Question is still in tho
minds of tho public and I wish to
make a standing statement in regard
to tho Luuing-Johnson matter. On
or about tho 2d day of December a
lot of old shirts was left in my office
with instructions to repair thorn by
ono signed Liming. 1 did repair
tho shirts, and a few days later this
man Liming, accompanied by his
wife, callodand brought another
shirt to bo repaired, and also asking
to soo tho first lot of shirts. I show
ed them and thoy woro both well
pleased and said tho job was well
done, and told mo that tho China
man would call on Monday and tako
them to bo re-laundriud. This was
on Saturday previous to Monday
mentioned, and when I finished tho
last shirt I brought tho bill to
Liming at his ollico. Ho got oxcitod
but I dfd not scare, and I simply
told him I would liko to colloct
money for my work. Ho used some
very hot words and said I had a
choek to ask for my money then,
uf
and ho said bo would ruin mo, but
still I did not searu. I told Luniuf
in pr
wolc(
resonco of a witness that ho was
come to call at my place of busi
ness, whore I have a room ouclosod,
and ho could try on tho shirts thoro,
but ho would not do it. No doubt
Mr. Luning thought ho had dead
easy game, but he was like the man
that fell out of tho balloon ho was
simply not in it. I will say this,
that in any case I make now shirts
and if they do not give ontiro satis
faction I will altor thorn, make now
shirts, or refund the money. Can
any porson do more? I will also
koop in repair all shirts made by me
for two years freo of charge, for I
am as quiet as a lamb.
