llonry G. Triukoy, a Boston re
porter, who was indicted on Friday
by tho Massachusetts Grand Jury
for contempt of court in connection
with tho Borden case, was killed by
a train near Hamilton, Canada, Dec.
30. Triekoy was known throughout
Now England as a dotuctivo reporter.
Tho Grand Jury of Bristol count',
Mass., which indicted Lizzie Borden
for tho murder of her father and
stepmother, also indicted Triekoy i
lor imorlonng with a Uovormnont
witness.
Tho Boston papor with which
Triekoy was connected published on
October 10th a very long and sonsa
tional story about tho Borden case,
a groat part, of which was false.
This story ho claimed to havo ob
tained from Dotuctivo McHonry,ono
of tho Government witnesses. There
Booms to havo boon a scheme within
a scheme Triekoy was after a big
"boat," and MoHonrv was anxious to
accommodate him ho as to square
tho accounts existing botwoon liini
solf and tho roportors growing out
of tho Graves trial at, Donvor. This
indictment by tho Grand Jury gives'
color to tho theory that MoHonry
inveigled Triekoy to Attloboro. Mass.,
that ho might consummate tho bar
gain ami rcceivo tho cash within tho
jurisdiction of tho Massachusetts
courts.
Triekoy was born m Dover, N IL,
in 18G8, and had boon a roportor since
1881. IIo signed articles and des
patches, generally on criminal cases
like tho Warden murder in Hanover,
N. H.. tho Sawtello murder in Ro
chester, N. H., tho Milieu conspiracy
case in Baltimore and tho Baruaby
murder in Providonco, and his intor
viow with JoHorson Davis at Boau
voir, made him famous, ovon outsido
tho narrow limits of Now England.
Ho was married only a year ago.
His young wife was prostrated by
tho news of his death.
BEURING SEA ARBITRATION.
At Ottawa it is said in regard to a
despatch from Washington announ
cing Fobruary 23d as tho date fixed
for tho mooting of tho Bohring sea
arbitrators that tho impression pro
vails in Paris that tho meeting on
that date will bo purely informal. It
is believed that a quorum will sim
ply assemble and arrango a formal
meeting in May or Juno. Such an
arrangement would suit ' Sir John
Thompson who, sineo his appoint
ment as British arbitrator, has had
tho responsibilities of tho Premier
ship thrust upon him, rendering it
almost lmpossioio lor nun 10 uo in
Paris during tho session of Parlia
ment, which opens about tho middle
of January and will last for threo
mouths at least.
DEATH OF A PRECOCIOUS BOV.
Walter Scott, tho boy who wrote
a letter to tho London Times last
March denouncing tho utterances of
tho English papers regarding the
troublo with Chile, died at Dunkirk,
Now York, Nov. M, aged 10 years.
Young Scott was a grandson of J.
T. Williams, editor of tho Dunkirk
Evening Observer. Ho worked in
his grandfather's oilicp out of school
hours and was a constant reader of
nowspapors. At tho beginning of
tho misunderstanding with Chile,
being intensely interested in tho his
torj' of tho country, ho watched tho
progress of tho dillicultj with tho
closest attention. Tho comments of
tho English papers aroused his
patriotism and ho determined to
write to tho Times, resenting tho
criticisms of tho English press. Ho
wroto over tho signature of Captain
Frank Scott, Thirty-third Pennsyl
vania Itillos. His letter was printed
in two Thugs and .was copied by Am
erican papers.
