ST. JOHN'S DAY AT HILO.
Banquot of tlio Brothron at tho Conoy
1 mil glad to clirouiclo (or you an
account of how thi Masons of Hilo

tlioir ordor St. John's Day, thu27th
of Dccombor. Ilwy did so by giviug

Tho banquot was given in Hilo's
now hotel, tho Conov House. Tho
exterior of tho building was ouo
blaze of brilliancy from numerous
lanterns, while tho interior of tho
hotel was transferred into a dream
land of (lowers and ferns by tho
dainty hands of Mrs. Weight.
Flowois wore everywhere. In fact
every projection in tho reception
room, banquot hall and billiard par
lor was redolent with sweet flowers,
while rare ferns and palms were used
in profusion in a most artistic man
ner. Tho table was set in a tempt
ing manner to charm the 030, as tho
menu charmed the palate.
l'ast Master John Spear of tho
Lodge Ie Progres acted as host, a
position ho is well qualified to fill,
and did justice to it.
Numerous toasts were proposed.
Gonial Dr. Williams' remarks were
enthusiastically received by all pres
ent, who in return drank to tho
doctor's good health. After all paid
tribute to tho shrine of Bacchus, tho
company adjourned to the billiard
parlors where all enjoyed themselves
until tlio wee sina' hours. Mr. Stup
plebeen was the center of attraction
by giving an exhibition of fancy
shots on tho green cloth.
Among the guests present wore:
Hon. Judge S. L. Austin, Dr. R. 13.
Williams, J. J'. Sisson, John Stup
plobeon, Win. Weight, John A.
Spear, L. Turner, A. B. Scott, John
Moior, George W. LoKoy, James
Sims, J. 11. Maby, W. Baum, George
Beckloy, J. C. St row and others.
Tho great Maltby gave Hilo a
grand treat at three entertainments
which ho gave, but was not as well
patronized as ho should have been.
We do not seo how it is possible for
anyone to oscel him on tho bicycle.
Ho is, it would seem, a perfect mas
ter of his art.
Notice to tho Public.
The llunexl People of Honolulu:
Tho Shirt Question is still in tho
minds or tho public anil 1 wish to
make a standing statement in regard
to (ho Luning-.lohtison matter. On
or about tho 2d day of December a
lot of old shirts was left in my ollico
with instructions to repair thorn by
one signed Liming. 1 did repair
the shirts, and a fow days later this
man Luning, accompanied by his
wife, called and brought another
shirt to bo repaired, and also asking
to seo tho lirst lot of shirts. 1 show
ed thorn and thoj' were both well
ploaiMHl and said tho job was well
done, and (old me that tho China
man would call on Monday and take
t hem to be re-laundried. This was
on Saturday previous to Monday
mentioned, and when 1 finished tho
last shirt i brought tho bill to
Luning ill his oilice. Ho got excited
but 1 did not scare, and 1 simply
told him 1 would liko to collect
money for my .work, lie used somo
very hot words and said I had a
cheek to ask for my 11101103' then,
anil ho said ho would ruin me, but
still 1 did not scare. 1 told Luniug
in presence of a witness that ho was
welcome to call at my place of busi
ness, whore 1 have a room enclosed,
and he could try on tho shirts there,
but ho would not do it. No doubt
Mr. Luning thought ho had dead
easy game, but ho was like tho man
that fell out of the balloon ho was
simply not in it. 1 will say this,
that in any case I make now shirts
and if they do not give entire satis
faction 1 will alter them, mako now
shirts, or refund tho monov. (Jan
any person do more? I will also
keep in repair all shirts mado by 1110
