had been issued by tho Supreme
Court against C. H. Wotmoro of tho
Chicago Tribune, for malicious in

on the U. S. S. Mohican, and was

It is a fact worthy of record that
this is the first case on the Hawaiian
Islands in which the Stars and
Stripes have been used to shield a
fugitive from justice, or a defaulter
from paying the ponalty of his mis
deeds, and it is much to bo regretted
that tho Hag, that has for over a
hundred years floated proudly over
brave aud noble men, should hare
been degraded aud misused to shel

Ids malicious persecution of an hon

the American ilug and defies the
law to hold him for punishment for
his evil deeds. J. W. Lunino.
