Roforring to ou article and a com munication in ro Loobonstoin in our impression of Saturday last a rocont circumstanco in that unworthy indi vidual's caroor was told by Mr. Wot moro, staff correspondent of tho Chicago Tribune during his stay horo; it rolatos to Loobonstoin's in terview with Commissioner Blount. In some way, quito unknown to anybody, Loebonstoin, managed to obtain an audionco with the Com missioner. Tho conversation was of course, upon tho political situation. Tho impression ho mado upon tho Commissioner was uofc ono that could bo considorod at all favorable, but tho moro fact of being allowed to sit for a moment in tho presence of the Georgia Statesman mado Loo bonstoin fool that to got his namoin tho newspapers in connection with Blount would bo of as much, if not moro, commercial value to him than in tho Pacific Coast Commercial Re cord for which ho paid tho publisher a smart consideration. In other ' words, when ho left Snow Cottage ho was considerably puffed up. As nothing resembles a pussy cat so much as a torn cat so nothing ro sonibled a bull frog so much as Loebonstein. Foreign corrospoudouts having boon denied audience with Commis sioner Blount they wore obliged to procure what information they could from moro favored persons, and to Mr. "Wotmore no game seemed so easy as Loobonstoin. When they mot after dinner tho correspondent questioned tho Hilo man regarding his interview with Mr. Blount and requested some information as to tho Commissioner's views. "Oh no!" said Loobonstoin. "I cannot do that." "Was tho conversation confidon I tial?" "Strictly so," replied the Hilo man, "and not only that but I have already promised to writo out the interview for Miss Krout of the Inter Ocoan." To a man of Loobenstoin's calibre, confidence "cut no figgor" whore an opportunity to get his name in the paper was placed alongside of it. To say that Wotmore was disgusted does not express it, and Loebonstein evidently read tho expressions on tho Chicago man's countenance as ono of disappointment, he felt re gret at haviug caused Wotmore any pain, so a little later in the evening he approached him with the ques tion, "Doesn't tho Tribune have a literary department?" "Yes," said Wotmore, "and wo consider it a foaturo of tho paper. " "Well!" said Loobenstein, "I would bo pleased to contribute to that department since you seem disap pointed at not getting my interview with Blount." "You are very kind, indeed," re plied Wotmore, "but you do not seem to understand that only men of ability and braius contribute to that column iii the Tribune. Sorry, sir, but good evening." W. C.
