I satisfactory results in manufacture,
transportation ana general business;
out too olton the combine is not
content with tho voluntary co-opora-tion
of such as chooso to join it. It
grasps at monopoly and seeks to
crush out all competition. It thus
crushes or swallows tho individual,
and ho is assaulted as though ho
were an outlaw.
"So it is with organizations of la
bor. The loaders order a strike and
tho members of the organization

Where is tho individual contractor

slavery was defended ou account of
its bonefit to tho slave; but is servi-'

than servitude to an organization?
"Is it not timo that the dormant
energies of tho nation wore aroused
and a speedy and summary stop put
to every such trespass on any man's
liberty? Are wo going to drift along
until this contest onds in a bloody
struggle? Business men are becom

laborer of the trades' unions.
"History repeats itself. Kansas
introduced tho groat civil war. Do
I err in forecasting the future when
I affirm that on the plains, in the
same great central State, the conflict
between tho domination of organ
ization and tho liberty of each indi

where in tho nation the cry for
socialism comes largely from the
dissipated, tho lazy and the dis

ignoring of the lessons of history is
a step toward socialism and the
destruction of liberty that tho toil
of centurios has achieved."

Ono of tho absurd consequences
that would in time result from Ha

out by ox-Senator Edmunds:
"If wo should anne tho islands it
would bo only a question of timo
when wo should admit thorn as a

Senators aud bo as powerful in tho
senate as tno Slate of Now York.
This is only ono of tho many good
objections that liavo boon offered."
Once admitted into the Union as
a State Hawaii would, of course,
have all tho lights and powers of
sovereignty. It would have a vote
in tho Electoral College and its
mongrel population a voice in tho
election of Pre-ndont. In a closo
