Commander Whiting and Bride Get
a Beat Hawaiian Bondoff.
Tho departure of the S. S. Austra
lia at noon to-day attracted to the
Oceanic wharf tho usual large crowd
of people, noticeable aiuoug whom
being officers of the war vessels and
a number of Honolulu society peo
ple. These came to bid adieu to
Commander. William H. Whiting
audhiB "lovely bride, who were pas
sengers on the steamer. Their
chamber on board was a bed of tro
pical flowers and evergreens. The
departing couple were. surrounded
by relatives and friends who be
decked them, in accordance with the
Hawaiian custom, with leis. As the
steamer was moving ofl the gay
commander and, hiB bride threw
kisses and flowers to thuir numerous
friends ou shore, tho latter recipro
cating by wishing them boil vovaire.
Captain and Mrs. Metcalfe wero not
forgotten by tho largo circle of
friends whom they havo made dur
ing their sojourn here. The captain
and his wife wero covered with Ha
waii's aloha, leis and evorgreeus.
Mrs. Metcalfe was also the recipient
of bouquets of carnations andosesV
