THE SKATING RAOE.
McCandlosa Claims a Foul and Stops
Running.
The skating rink was pretty well
filled on Saturday evening, the at
traction being the two-mile skating
race between Charles Lambert, Jas.
Spencer, K. .1. McCaudlcs and Tom
J'ryce for a prize. J'ryce, having
sprained his ankle the previous
night while practicing, withdrew
and the others were son! oirwith a
very fair Mart. Lambert and Mc
Candle.'S held the pace even for a
few lap, when the latter attuned
the lead. Turning the Waikiki cor
ner Lambert "elbowed" McCandle-s
oil the track, and shot ahead. Mc
Caudles threw up his hands and
stopped, claiming a foid.it liming
been underMiiod that there was to
be no touching. The other two
finished the race, Lambert winning
with Spencer a bad second. Theie
was the usual squabble between
the judges as to whether Lambert
touched or pushed his opponent.
W. Saviilge refined to give Limb-rt
the prie until the judges gave their
decision. As they are evenlv divided,
it is probable that the lirt prize
will be run oil" between Lambert and
McCandles.s on Saturday next. If
nrrnugcd this should beau exciting
event.
