the San Francisco market so far as
practicable. Tho cruiser's decks will
bo renewed throughout, llor furni
ture aud wood furuishiuK will bo
overhauled ami repolished, and tho
wards aud staterooms thoroughly
renovated. There aro no end of im
portant improvements suggested,
uud, iu accordance with orders from
the Navy Department, plans for tho
same have been forwarded on to
Washington for approval. Sho has
been entirely stripped of her ma
chinery, which has been transferred
to the steam engineering shops,
where it is being overhauled aud all
beariugs renewed. The ammunition-
room is to be enlarged ana more
thoroughly equippod with the latest
appliances, while the soveral ammu
nition hoists will bo improved as
well. With tho completion of all
repairs and the inauguration of the
improvements desigued, it is pre
dicted by those iu chargo of the
work that tho Boston, when sho
agaiu goes iu commission, will bo iu
better condition than when first
built, and far superior to any war
ship of her class atloat. There will

cepting the addition of such modern
appliances as hare been adopted in
