ToOOUon the trip, lho discussion
resulted in a wagor of &")000 a aide,
and Mr. Jones was to start Febru

retiring to a bathroom callod to his
friends, requiring each to pay 1 cent
adtnissioti, 24 cunts being raised.
With this he bought tnnuilla paper
aud made a suit of clothes which
later in the day brought him $10 at
a clothing sloro. Then ho procured
a horse blanket aud charged G conta

X.EOTUBE ON KARK&.
Mrs. Thirds Again Holds the Atten
tion of a Large Audlonce.
Interest continues to grow in Mrs.
Thirds' thoosophlcal lectures, and it
:u to an increased audience on Fri
day evening that she lectured ou
Knrma. Karma is tho thoosophlcal
uamu for tho law which compensatos.
It announces that wo are what wo
aro because wo havo been what
we have been. That wo shall be
what wo shull bo because wo aro
what ho are: that we may bo what
we will providing that wo act aud
thiuk on such a plauu as will lead ua
to the desired goal. In other words,
while wo are free agents to choose
our road in every action and thought,
of life, yet once chosen tho result ia
inevitable and irrevocable. Much of
the interest which uow cantors iu
Tueosophy is caused by tho logical,
clear and oratorical uttorancos of
the lectures?, who holds hor audi
ences spellbound till tho conclusion
of the lecture.
Tho Timos aud tho Pacific Cable.

capital outlay for the establishment
of the lino at 2,000,1X10. This is a
practical proposal showing that the
question has entered a stage in
which tho governments concerned
must decide whut part they will
take. Tho interests are not wholly
financial. Tho maiu consideration
is rather public utility. Tho nation
laying the first Pacific cable aud
putting the first good lino of steam
ships on tho Pacific may reasonably
expect to hold a commanding posi
tion on tho ocean, lu tho efforts
which tho British colonies aro mak

they simply are obeying the dictates
of their own advantage.
A Oraud Feature
Of Hood's Sarsaparilla is that while
it purifies the blood and seuds it
coursing through the veins full of
richness aud health, it also imparls
new life and vigor to every fuuetion
of thu body, lleuco the expression
so oiteu lioarii: "Hood's Sarrpanlla
made a new person of me." It over
comes that tired feoling so common
now.

Ladies who aro ou tho lookout for
