Political Police.
Editor Bulletin:
If the celebrated Boa Akiba was
still alive, he would hare to admit
that tho way in which things are
managed iu the mounted police is
an entirely now one. The highly
gifted captain of this force, when
on duty, presides over political
meetings or loafs about in barrooms,
drinking boor. In tho management
(or mismanagomeut) of his club, he
is "ably" assisted by his Lieutenant,
Cordes, bettor known under his
nom do guere, "Mary Anne." This
worthy satellite had tho audacity to
tell one of the best men of the night
patrol, Mr. Richard Ludloff, that he
would be discharged from the force
and would not get a Government
job again though he were beggiug
lor ono on his knees. And why?
Simply because Mr. LudlolT would
not vote, either pro or con, In a
meeting of tho Schuotzen Club. Iu
that meeting Capt. Klouitue was
forced to resigu and from that day
ho aud his right hand man, "Mary
Anno," havo a deadly hatred against
anyone who opposed thorn or kept
neutral, uaruly credible mat, out
nevertheless a solid facll Mr. Lud
loff is a highly respected, sober and
industrious young uiau, who always
did his duty and was ropeatodly
mentioned iu a favorable way. Ouo
of the papers slated that he was
discharged for being found asleep.
Now. thin is not true. Uo had to
go simply because those would-be
wire-pullers did not want him. Capt.
Klouitue, called Boor Charley by
some of his friends, could not give m
solid reason for discharging this
sober young man. No, he could sot
giro one If he was promised all the
beer in town. It Capt. Klemrno,
who thiuks he will some time be
President of this Hoptiblic, tries to
got political influence, lot him try
to gain that in his loisure hours. It
is really a piece of phenomenal gall
to drive tho wholo mounted police
forco to Dolitical meetings whon the
men ought to bo on duly. I wonder
if tho Marshal sanctions that, and if
he does, somo peoulo, and not a
few, should liko to know tho reasou
why. Faih 1'lat.
