New Volcano Paintings.
Mr. Hitchcock the artist has com
pleted a splondid painting of the
volcano from his recent observations
in the crater. The subject is treated
in an original way, the result being
something different from all former
studies of the volcano by either
himself or others. There is a rich
ness of coloring and a handling of
the sulphurous vapors which make
this now work of art exceedingly at
tractive. It is a day scene, and Mr.
Hitchcock has another picture on
the easel showing the wondroua
spectacle by night. He has several
very neat views completed of scenes
along tbe volcano roau.

How a Lot of Money Leaka Out.
What does a man do when he finds
a holo in his pocket where he carries
his monoyt Anybody can answer
that question. He has it sowed up.
of course, directly, and good aud
strong, too. I suppose it is with
you just os it is with me. When 1
spend mouey, evon foolishly. I can
tell where it went, and may be I've
had some sort of pleasure out ot it.
Hut I do mortally hate to lose mon
ey; lose it out and out, you know,
aud have no satisfaction from it, or
know how aud when it left my pos
session. Well now, let mo show you the
worst aud bitritest hole auy man
ever had in his pocket; a hole that
lets the cash leak away liko water
through a sievo, a hole that is the
hardest In tho world to sew up. A
short story will show it best.
"Drutumoro South Cottago,
"Musselburgh, near Edinburgh,
"September 10th, lbJl.
"Gentlemen, Up to 1885 I was
always slroug and healthy. About
this time I bogan to feel bad. 1 was
tired, languid, dull, and listless, and
everything was a burden to me. 1
had no desire for company, and
what had come over me 1 could not
make out. My tongue and mouth
were dry, and 1 had a deal of phlegm
ou my stomach. The whites of my
eyes next became discoloured and
my skin was yellow. 1 had no appe
tite, aud after eating I had great
pain at my chest auu slues, also
across my stomach. After a time
the pain settled in my left side,
and my heart would beat and
jump in a mannor that alarmed
me. Uy-aud-by I got so weak that
I was not able to go about the
house, and I felt that 1 ought to
bo in oeu. lue pains at my atue
aud stomach became so bad that I
bad to remove my clothing (every
thing seemed so tight), aud I used
to press my stomach aud hold my
sides to try aud ease tho pain. Get
ting worse I saw a doctor at Mussel
burgh aud was under him for three
mouths, but his medicine gave me
no relief. Aftor this I went to a
clever doctor at Preston Pans who
said I was sulToriug from indiges
tion aud dyspepsia, lie sent to
Loudon for some celebrated medi
cine which was packed in small
phials. This meuiciue seemed to
dissolve my food, and 1 felt easier
for a time but 1 gained no strength
or real beuefit, aud after persevering
with his treatment for six mouths, 1
gave It up aud fell into my old state.
1 next wont to a doctor at Mussel
burKh, but all his mediclues did me
no good. After this 1 saw auother
doctor (that is a fourth doctor), but
with the same result; none of them
gave mo auything that reached my
complaint. I now lost all faith iu
physic, for 1 had spent a deal of
mouey aud taken so much medicine
'that 1 lost all my teeth through it'
anil was no better for it. Iu great
misery I lingered ou mouth after
mouth, always ailing, when iu
August of last year UMO), my hus
band called at Mr. Jack's Drug
Stores, High Street, Fisherrow, and
told him what my condition was.
Mr. Jack gavo him an account of
the wonderful cures he heard of
from mauy of his customers that
had taken a medicine called Seigel's
Syrup, aud strongly recommended
htm to bring me a bottle. He did
so, aud I cotumeuced taking the
Syrup, aud 1 found some relief from
the first bottle, aud by the time I
had taken four bottles I was as well
and strong an mor 1 was in my life,
aud have since kept in good health.
I tell every one what Seigel's Syrup
has done for me. 'I uever thought
to get better again,' and 1 consider
it has saved my life. 1 wish others
to know this, and if by publishing
this st at union t it will bo the means
of helping others, as it helped me,
you cau iimi tula loiter as you like.
Yours truly, (Sigued) Jemima
Watson."
Look baok to about the middle of
the above letter ami au'ain read
what the writer says: "I had spent
a deal of money for mudiciuo." Yes,
and mouey she could poorly alTord
to spare. Illness aud the expense of
illness is the great hole iu the pocket
that 1 alluded to. It costs so much,
aud what does it give us iu ruturnt
1'aiu, wearittess, aud misery. There
is another consideration besides.
When wo are ill we uot only have to
bear the increased outgo, but man
age to meet larger demands out of a
decreased lucome, Our caudle is
burning at both ends, "Yoa'v'm
say, "but how cau we keep from fall
ing 1111" You cattuol always, but iu
tiew of tho fact that most iiluesses
arise from indigestion ami dyspep
sia, nAimely use of Mother Seigel's
Cuial..i bjrup will prevent it. A
few shillings thus Invested will save
pounds iu motley aud perhaps
months of wretchedness. Thiuk
over the striking points iu Mrs.
Watson's excellent letter aud you
will thiuk the same.
