The great advantages to be derived from the use of the National Oark
dft&KDD&k are thoroughly established and acknowledged by Planters
generally.
The Urge number of Planum using them in the United States, Cuba,
Argentine Republic, Peru, Australia ami elxowbero, hear witnect to the
above claim.
Tho Ueo of the BllttKimsH very Urguly augment the quantity of cant
the mill dm grind (25 to bO',), also the extraction of juice (5 to 12).
It is a great safeguard, making known at nuco uio presence- of any
pbce of iron, stakes from cars, or anything which would bo liable to damage
Uie mill, and allowing ample time to remove same before damaging the mill.
The diiKKPDKK is very strougly made, and from tho manner of its opera
Uon it cuts or tears these pieces of wood or iron without often breaking the
ditUKUDEK ; and if anything breaks, it is simply some of the knives or cutters,
which can bo quickly aud economically replaced. The tiHKKnutm, as its
name indicates, tears tuo cauo into shreds of varying lengths, perfectly open
ing it aud allowing tho mill to thoroughly press out the juices without re
quiring the irumenso extra power necessary to grind or crush the whole
cane. Tho Shkkddkk spreads the shredded cane uniformly and evenly to
the mill rolls, and does away with the necessity of spreading the bagasse by
hand butweeu tho mills, where -(.'grinding is in use. No greater amount ol
boiler capacity is required to operate the SHkkdijkh than that winch wa
sufficient for the mill, for the above i canons. We furnish full working
drawings for the installation of our Hiirkddbr, enabling any competent en
gineer to successfully install and start them.
In ordering Siikkddsks from us, pleaso send small sketch, showing the
diameter and width of the mill rolls with which Bueiduku is to bo connected,
also tho side (either right or toft hand as you face rhe delivery side of th
mill-, upon which tho mill engine is located, also the height from floor line
to center of front mill roll shaft, and distauco center this shaft to front end
of bed plate. Thcso Hhkkdukhs are now being used by tho Uilo Hugar Co.
and llawi Mill, Kohala, where they are giving great satisfaction.

Death of Count Kcstetics Bollovcd to
Be ft Mittako.
Tho reported death of Count Fes
totics at one of tho islands in tho
South Pacific is not credited ho re,
says the San Francisco Bulletin.
Tho Maripo.a brought no news of
any such character on her lat trip,
and the fact that tho story coinusby
tho Tropic Bird, a sailing vessel, 11
not considered nutlieiitic.
According to tho news by tho
Mariposn it was stated that tho
Count and Countess were unjo)iiig
good health and having a splendid
trip.
Thcro is no verification of tho
news of tho death of tho Count, and
whilo such a thing is possible it is
hardly probablo in view of the data
furnished only a short time ago.

Most Vmericans who travel in Eu
rope become indignant when they
see women working as farm hands.
But Itabbl Joseph Krauikopf of
Philadelphia, now in Germany, says:
"Such farm work for women is
neither degrading nor too taxing.
They have pledged to bocomo help
mates to their husbands and they ro
f;ard it their duty to lesson the
abors of their fathors, and, boing
physically able to do their share,
they regard it wrong to permit tho
stronger sex to slave themselves to
death whilo thoy are idling their
time away at home. Judging from
their happy and healthy loolts they
seem to bo nono the worse for taking
their places alongside the menfolk
for tho purpose of honestly earning
thoir bread. Had we a little more
practical good sense and less senti
mentality among our women at
homo, many a woman's life might bo
happier to-day, hnppir for being
more useful, and many a man's life
would bo fpared tho necessity of
slaving itfell to death to indulge a
wife's or a daughter's idleness and
luxuries."

Beet Sugar in Utah.
Beet sugar by irrigation has prov
ed a success in Utah, as told by tho
manager of tho Lechi factory, which
costs some 600,000, and which con
sumes 80,000 tons of beet in a sea
son, paying tho farmer $5 per ton.
resulting in a not profit to him of
135 per acre. The factory has been
in operation three years and has
produced, in 1801, 1,100,000 pounds;
In 1892, 1,500,000 pounds; in 1893.
4,200,000 pounds, and this year will
turn out 5,000,000 pounds of refined
sugar. All of this is by irrigation,
yet it would require 1000 such fac
tories to supply the home demand
of tho United States. Corr. X. V.
