Sir: At a meoting of tho Hawai

adopting the entiro tickol for Sena

Ittsohcd That tho Hawaiian Ro
publican club desires to notify tho
American Union party of its sanc
tion of both tickets for Sonators and
Representatives adopted by tho dele
gates of the Amorican Union party
at the nominating convention.
For Senators- Messrs. Cecil Brown,

Joseph Howard Withoford. who
arrived on tho Monowai last Satur
day, is. according to his own ac
count, visiting tho United States
upon a very peculiar mission. Ho
comes to advocato tho establishment
of another lino of steainors botwoon
Sydney and San Francisco. At pres
ent tho Oceanic Steamship Com
pany is running threo steamors reg
ularly between thoso points via Apia
and Honolulu, and so is the Cana
dian 1'aclOo Steamship Company.
At ono time tho Oovornmont of Now
South Wales paid a subsidy to tho
Ocoanio Steamship Company; but,
about threo years ago, withdrew it.
Then tho Canadian FacIOc camo
into tho field and tho subsidy was
fiaid to it and is still aiding in keep
ng tho opposition alivo.
The steamors that mako British
Columbia their hoadquarters receivo
over $500,000 a year from tho Cana
dian, Australian and British Govern
ments, while tho Ocoanio Steamship
Company has to strugglo along
unaided, with tho exception of a
fow thousands a year paid it by tho
Government of Now Zealand. Yot
Mr. Witheford comes all tho way
from Sydney, N. S. W., to say: "I
am coutidont that if Amorican capi
tal will put a fino lino of steamors to
the Colonies it will reap a largo in
como from tho outlay."
Does Mr. Withoford want any bet
tor steamors than tho Alameda and
Mariposat Tho Monowai might
easily be improved upon, but then
sho is owned by the Union Steam
ship Company of New Zealand. If
Mr. Witheford wants an improved
liuo lot him pursuado his Govom
ment to restore tho subsidy it with
drew from tho American lino and in
now paying to tho Canadian vessols.

Every painter should uso Lucol In
stead of Linseed Oil, because :
1. LtcoL Is more durable than Linseed
2. Lucot, Is more tconomical than Lin
PROOF THAT LUCOL IS MORE
Six years of actual uso in exterior
houso painting in California (tho
most trying climate for paints), in
the burning heat of the Arizona Des
ert, tho Arctic cold of Alaska, and on
tho Atlantic coast, have fully and
practically shown that Lucol always
outwears Linseed Oil under tho samo
conditions. All tho acid works in
San Francisco havo discarded Lin
seed Oil for Lucol.
ILLUSTRATE THIS YOURSELF.
Put strong ammonia on Linseed and
Lucol paints. Tho Linseed paints
aro destroyed in a fow minutes; tho
Lucol paints aro practically unaffect
ed. PROOF THAT LUCOL IS MORE
Break up 1 lbs. pasto whilo lead
in one pint of Lucol, and tho same
quantity in one pint of Linseed Oil.
Spread the paints on similar dark
surfaces for comparison. Tho Lucol
paint spreads as far as and covers
much better than tho Linseed paint.
To get equally good covering wilh tho
Linvocd paint you havo to uso 2 lbs.
of white lead to otio pint of Linseed
Oil. This means a saving of J lb. of
pasto lead to each pint of Lucot. used,
or 0 lbs. to every gallon, equivalent
to your saving moro than half tho
flrst cost of tho Lucol.
Lucol is not in competition with
cheap Linseed Oil substitutes.
