OLIVES XN AUSTRALIA.
Borne of the Agricultural Pesta that
Bother the Colonist
In his "Trnteller'a Notes," HriUujr
about South Australia, Mr. J. H
Veitch has the following in regard
to olive trees: "Sir Samuel Dnvon
port's olivo trees are very fine, and
no manufactures a considerable
quantity of oil, tbo granite-crushers,
levor-presses, and rocoptaoles for
which aro of the highest order. I
may here mention, so numerous are
the olives round Adelaide, that this
industry will probably assume ereat
proportions but for thv labor of
gathering. To any observer a little
beneath the surface, there seems to
be no question that what the Aus
tralian colonies renuirn is men morn
than money. As it in, 80s to 40s per
week wages to olive-gatherers will
not permit of competition with the
cheap labor of Italy." In regard to
weeds in South Australia, Mr. Veitch
states that the colony suffers as
much from acclimatised animal
pests as rabbits and sparrows.
Gorse, briar, artichoke, prickly pear
aud bramble grow and multiply to
an alarming extent. Stone thistle
and Bat hurst burr (Xanthium spin
osum), fatal to the fleeces of sheop,
are much dreaded, and the law has
rendered it criminal for landowners
to permit the existence of the burr
on or near their estates. Stink-weed
was also rampant at t e lime of Mr.
A Good Appetite
Always accompanies good health,
and an absence of appotito is an in
dication of something wrong. The
universal testimony given by thoso
who have used Hood's Sarsaparilla,
as to its merits in restoring the
appetite, and as a purifier of the
blood, constitutes the strongest re
commendation that can be urged for
Hood's pills euro all llvor ills,
biliousness, jaundice, indigestion,
sick uuauaunu. zoo.
