Sad Ending of a Partial Cripple
After a Drinking Relapse.
The dead bod v of Andrew Carlson
was found floating in the bay near
tlio can buoy early Sunday morning
by police otticor Green. The body
wan taken to the Police Station on a
atretchor, and there a pot mortem
examination was mnde by Dr. Mo
Gettigan. Thero were no bruises
on the body, and to all appearances
death was caused by drowning. The
body was identified by friends, and
the funeral took place at 2 o'clock
Sunday afternoon, the interment
being at the Makiki Cemetery.
Carlson was seen on King street
about fi:30 o'clock on Saturday after
noon by Captain Jiosehill, and later
in tho evening was seen knocking
about in the Merchant's Exchange
saloon. N'ear closing time Carlson
was sitting on a table aud appeared
to be under tho influence of liquor.
Ho walked out shortly, going down
Nuuauu street toward tho wharf.
That was the last sen of the man
alive. It is gonural belief that Carl
sou was so far gono that ho walked
off the wharf into tho bay.
Andrew Carlson was one of a
batch of immigrants who came
here about thirteen years ago.
Ho worked at Spreckelsville plan
tation as coachman lor II. Mor
rison. For some time he was
employed by J. A. Cummins at Wai
tnaualo, and at divers tituos took
caro of W. G. Irwin's animals, llo
was a capable horseman. Some
years after ho catuo hero ho took a
trip to the Coast, and whilo thero
met with a railroad accident, ono of
his feet being cut off at tho instep.

ments of Mr. and Mrs. Neilson. tho
jury returned a verdict of "accident

joined tho Salvation Army, forswear
ing strong driuk, aud tbero is an
opinion held generally that his re
lapse caused remorse which lod him
to make away with himsolf.
