Curtis i Inukea, ComuiUionor of Crown Lands, was at bis officii ytRtar day aftur rotuniing from an olliuial visit to tho homustuads anil luaso holds on Hawaii. Tho Commissioner reports aiTairs at tho sottloinonts as generally satis factory. Ho had found that the conditions of leases woro in many oases more than fulfilled by tho holders. Altogether there is in,(XX) to 10. 000 acres iu tho Olaa region, through which tho Volcano road runs, ap portioned on leases for tho raising of coffee. There is MX) acres under cul tivation, iu coffee trees of one to two years' growth, Threo or four hundred acres additional is cleared for planting. The plants for this land are ready in tho nurseries. Mr. laukea estimates that there will be a round thousand acres under culti vation iu coffee by tho cud of tho year, on tho Olaa lands. Many of the settlers have built snug houses on their lots, and alto gether tho settlement affords a good promise or prosperity. At Waimoa tho I'ukupu lauds al lotted last year are Ihiiug Improved. It is a rather rugged territory, and tho holders of lots are not obliged to plant anything but trees. This they have been faithfully perform ing. Mr. laukea found the abounding young coffee groves iu llamaKtia district nourishing. Mr. Horner's was tho best coffee ho had seen any where, that gentleman having 1h stowed much intelligent care on the cultivation. Ruing asked as to tho political attitude of tho native settlers ho had met, Mr. Iaukoa said tho natives were favorably impressed with Presi dent Dole on tils visit to them. This was tho same time as tho Commis sioner's visit. Some of them had been inlluencod by statements originating with politicians in Ho nolulu, to tho effect that a change back to the monarchy was certain, when they would bo deprived of holdings of laud obtained from tho present Government. Also, that they were to Imi ejected if they did nut take the oath to tho Republic. President Dole's visit was for tho purpose of gaining information to aid in the improvement of tho home steading laws. Ho had made no slated appointments to talk to the people on political or other matters, but incidentally discussed matters pertaining to their welfare as set tiers in n manner that seemed to make a good impression. Viulaturo Art. At Williams' Studio are to be soon Portraits on Watch Dials, which ho is making a specialty of. Lantern Slides for lecture by the set or dozen. UINERAL WATER.
