DISCIPLES OF THE ADEPTS.
Farewell Address of Mrs. Thirds on
Yesterday evening at the usual
hour Mrs. SL M. Thirds gave her
farewell address to an unusually
large and fashionable audience. Hor
subject was "Theosophical Ideals."
As ft former lectures the matter was
handled in the best of literary and
oratorical style. Summed up in few
words tho ideal of the truo Thooso
phist is to live, think, aud act a life
of perfect altruism. To perfect him
self in self-abnegation and to con
stantly project his mind on the piano
of tho greatest good to humanity as
a whole must bo the eud to which
every truo follower of tho Adepts
must devoto his existence in tho
present state with a full conscious
ness that iu future every act, word
and thought thtu performed will
hasten thai glorious perfection
which, in recurring re-incaruatious,
tho believor will partnko of. Iu con
clusion Mrs. Thirds thanked the
constant attonders who had choorod
her in hor work by their presence,
tho press for its free aud full reports
of her addresses, and tho personal
friends who had stood by her in tho
face of detraction aud division. A
hearty round of npplauso from tho
attentive audieuce greeted tho con
clusion of Mrs. Thirds' work in
Honolulu and the summing up of
tho plan of the Theosophical So
ciety s work as presented to Hono
lulu audiences. A farowcll reception
to tho fair aud gifted lectures will
bo given at M. P. Robinson's resi
douco this eveniug.
Too Much Mixing of Spouses at
Thero havo bran somo complaints
mado lately at tho police station, by
wifo against husband and husband
against wife, of desortion at tho
uloso of dancing parties that havo
increased in number lately. In tho
District Court this morning J. Na
kookoo was on trial for assaulting
his wife. Tho complainant staled
that she was a mombor of tho choir
in Kaiimakapili and on Sunday
night she was singing there, when
her husband appeared and ordered
her to go home. Sho refused to go
until after the service. When sho
went homo Nakookoo pulled her
hair and knocked hor ((own. Dis
trict Magistrate Perry reprimanded
aud discharged tho defendant. It
appears it was another of those
dance cases. Mrs. Nakookoo had
been attending dancos and instead
of returning homo when they worn
over would stay at a relative's house.
