PATENTED UNDER THE LAWS OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
Mr. John A. Bcoll, Mnungcr of llio Ililo Httgur Company, given thu follow
ing wonderful record of thu working of thu NATIONAL CANE SUHED
DElt, which was erected by their works ut tliu coiumunceinunt of the crop i
just harvested:
" During tlto past week the Ililo Sugar Company's mill exceeded nny of
its former records hy closing the 125 hours grinding witli an output of aOOJ
tons. This is fully 10 percent more than thu best work of former yours.
"Tlio three roller mill being 20 in. hy 1 in. and the two roller mill U0 in. '
hyCOin. 1 he first mill doing this amount of work in an elllcient manner .
and with great ease, compared with work on wholu cane, owing to thorough
preparation of the cano by thu National Cane Shredder, iccently erected hy
the Company.
11 And by its use the extraction has heon increased from .'i percent to 5 per
cent on all kinds of cane, and in some cases 80 percent lias been readied ;
thu average being 75 to 78 percent, aeeordini; to uu.ilitv. '
"I continue to liud the tuegass from shredded cano better fuel than from
whole cane.
"The shredder hits been working day and night for sccn mouths and has
given me entire satisfaction, haiug shredded during that time about seventy
thousand tons of cane, and a large part of it hoing hard ratoous.
"The shredder and engine require very little care or attention."

Friendship.
When friendship, love and tiuth abound
Among a band of brotherc,
It's then that Joy goes gaily round,
Kach shares th bliss of others.
Sweet roes grace their thorny way
Along the vale of sorrow:
The Mowers which shed their leaves to day,
Shall bloom again to morrow.
How grand in nee. how fair in youth,
Is holy Mendahip, love and traib.
On halcyon wings our moments pss,
Old Time lays down his sullen glass.
In gay good humor smiling
i gay goou numor sinning,
with urmlno head and nail ot grass,
His reverent iront adorning.
He looks like Winter turned to May,
Sight softened Into morning.
How grand In age. bow fair In youth,
It holy friendship, love and truth
From theo delightful fountains How
, Ambrosial wells of pleasure.
Can men desire, cn heaven bestow,
A more re pWidcnt pleasure?
i Adorned with gems so richly bright
We'll form a constollntlon,
Where every star with modest light,
Shall gild Its proper station.
ll'nv grnnu in age, uow inir in yiiuui,
Is holy friendship, love and truth
